Nobody knows more about getting a Ford around a racetrack quickly than Jack Roush. For years, some of the nastiest, most powerful, and most spectacular blue oval hardware ever built has come out of Roush Performance in Livonia Michigan. With the growing popularity of "open track" days at local road courses, Jack Roush decided to produce a race engineered performance car that could double as a well-mannered road car during the week and a tenacious track warrior on the weekends. This 4,931 mile 2008 Roush Mustang 427R Trak Pak is the ultimate embodiment of decades of racing knowledge packed into a street-legal car that is an absolute weapon on a road course.
Number 83 of only 100 Roush Trak Pak Mustangs built, this 427R Trak Pak Mustang has been in the care of one meticulous owner since new and presents excellent in every way. Equipped with every available option, it is one of only five Vista Blue Mustangs upfitted with Trak Pak equipment, and is the ONLY Vista Blue Trak Pak equipped with blue stripes. At the front of the car, a functional Roush three-piece body kit provides a menacing look that begins with a high flow black bar grille which is sandwiched between two completely clear and completely functional black bucketed headlights. Below the grille, a custom Roush front valence houses custom Roush lower valence lamps and incorporates cooling ducts for the cars massive optional front brakes. At the bottom of the bumper, a Roush chin spoiler pushes out from the car providing both an aggressive look and functional air splitting at the track. Above the grille, the cars factory hood wears a centered blue stripe, is secured by Roush hood pins and carries a custom Roush hood scoop that features blue "Roushcharged" decals on its sides. Behind the hood, great looking factory glass wears a blue "Roush" windshield banner and is flanked by factory flat black rear view mirrors. Just behind the front wheels, swept blue Roush decals line up on the cars cowl line and narrow as they run to the rear of the car along traditional Mustang side scoops. Featured at the top of those decals are "427R Trak Pak" insignias, and incorporated into the middle of them is familiar Roush fender emblems. Out back, a completely adjustable trunk mounted carbon fiber rear racing spoiler sits above a small satellite radio antenna and a machined aluminum fuel door which is located on the cars left rear fender. Below the trunk, two pristine factory tail lights border a custom Roush "427" faux fuel filler emblem and sit above a stylized rear bumper which houses bright stainless exhaust tips. The Vista Blue paint on this car is simply spectacular and the blue stripe package offers an all-business monochromatic look that still manages to be bright and interesting. The blending between the factory paint and Roush's work is invisible and this Mustang is every bit as nice as a new Mustang that just rolled out of a Ford showroom.
Like all 427Rs, the Trak Pak features a supercharged and intercooled 4.6 liter V8 that cranks out 435 horsepower and 400 lb./ft. of torque. Roush's patented "Roushcharger" is an Eaton style blower that sits atop the engine and exhales through an air-to-liquid intercooler that helps manage on-track temperatures. In front of the blower, you'll find a custom Roush air induction system and below the blower you'll find a custom Roush Performance intake manifold. Despite Fords 4.6 liter being a very strong engine as is, a few upgrades were implemented to deal with the rigors of racing including a beefier cooling system, a recalibrated ECM and a Roush Performance strut tower brace that reinforces the front end and improves steering precision. On the radiator support you'll find a Roush Performance badge that lists the cars power output and verifies that this is number 83 out of 100 Trak Pak Mustangs built. And on the passenger's side inner fender you'll find a satin metal plate with the signature of the guy who assembled the car. Number 83's engine bay features Roush Performance's typical OEM style expertise and displays hardly any signs of usage at all. When the engine is fired up, the custom air intake combines with the awesome Roushcharger to provide a sinister whine at idle and an incredible roar from trackside.
The D2C Mustang platform is a very capable foundation and the added upgrades from Roush Performance make the car a true force to be reckoned with at the track. The transmission is a factory 5-speed manual driving a rugged Ford 8.8-inch rear end. Inside that rear end, a Detroit TrueTrac differential houses road course appropriate 3.55 gears, which give the car long legs at the big end and good power out of the corners. Roush Performance's Trak Pak suspension upgrades include: a retuned three link front suspension, front and rear coil-overs with adjustable shocks that include tunable ride-height and corner loading adjustments, new sway bars at both ends of the car, a set of highly adjustable camber/caster plates to fully dial in alignment, and new jounce bumpers. Braking is handled by factory equipped rear discs and positively massive 14 inch two-piece slotted front rotors that are clamped by red six piston "Roush" stamped calipers. Race pads and high-temperature brake fluid are, of course, mandatory, and brake cooling ducts feed the front brakes cool air from the front fascia. Exhaust is handled by a custom stainless steel system that is exclusive to Roush vehicles, and sounds downright predatory, even at idle. At the corners of the car, awesome looking dark charcoal gray Roush Performance 18 inch forged alloy wheels are secured by chrome locking lug nuts and wear super sticky 275/40 Continental Extreme radials.
Inside the cockpit, the driver will immediately notice the upgrades that come with the Roush 427R. The seats are amazing looking black buckets which feature blue stitching and bright blue center pieces with black Jack Roush signatures. The dash features an OEM quality three-gauge dash pod that incorporates a built in shift light and includes readouts for engine oil temperature, coolant temperature, and boost. In front of the driver, custom Roush Performance gauges feature Jack Roush's signature below white readouts that are lit in red. Beside the driver, a Roush branded short throw shifter blends perfectly into the center console, and for the sake of safety, a chrome fire extinguisher has been installed in the passenger's side foot well. At the floor, Roush Performance pedals hang over like-new black carpet which is protected by custom "427R" branded floor mats and bordered by satin finished Roush sill plates. Behind the cockpit, the trunk is still in its completed factory state and looks as good as the day the car was assembled. Naturally, all of the Mustang amenities that you've come to expect are included in this car such as climate control, a powerful stereo with a CD changer, cruise control and power accessories, and it is sure to be as comfortable on the road as any 'run of the mill' new car.
