1930 Deluxe Delivery
1930 Ford Model A Description
For your consideration is this Deluxe Delivery, one of 4,629 built for the 1930 Model Year. It was restored over two years ago, and has been parked since that time with one mile on the odometer. Sadly, the restorer and dear friend passed before putting the finishing touches on this car. It is 99% done, with just some details and adjustments remaining. This was a complete nut and bolt restoration with all of the lumber replicated in white ash by a local master wood worker. All of the sheet metal was stripped to bare metal and repaired where needed with patch panels and a minimum of filler. The engine, a diamond block, was completely rebuilt with new babbit, and all new internals. It is stamped to match the VIN on the clear Michigan title. The rest of the drivetrain was disassembled, cleaned, and parts replaced where needed. The brakes consist of all new hardware, cast iron drums, and the shoes were arched and centered. Plating was done by Craig Riker, and has the correct butler finish on the dash and parking brake / shift lever. The interior is Lebaron Bonney.
As I noted earlier, there is still attention needed in some areas to finish this car. I have installed a new battery and driven it an additional mile around the neighborhood. In my inspection and subsequent short drive, there are some things that will need completion. The brake rods have not been adjusted at the clevises yet. It stops, but they will work substantially better after the rods are adjusted to the right length. I heard this engine run when it was a bare chassis and it was very smooth. It now idles poorly, which I believe is due to the two year old ethanol gas in the system. The engine sounds good and pulls hard, so am confident that draining the tank (about two gallons) and running some fresh gas will likely remedy the problem. There are some painted areas around the back door that have not been wet sanded and polished out yet. There are some paint chips around the front doors, and the drivers door doesn't close as well as it should and will need adjustment. The rest of the Lombard Blue and black is nice and will really shine with a good waxing. The rear passenger fender has an odd curve to it, which I think is being caused by the rear bracket not having the correct bend in it. I think if that bracket is bent out a little the fender will get it's form back.
The restorer paid attention to details, and rightfully thought that a restoration done correctly was the only way, as evident by his previous 20+ restorations including national fine point winners. This was his second Deluxe Delivery restoration. His first, a '31, barely missed a MARC of Excellence award due to an over detailed engine. Aside from the brake adjustment, this car is ready to get some miles on it. I willnot accept bids from outside the U.S. The family can continue to store the car for a reasonable amount of time, but expects full payment at the conclusion of this auction. I will work with your shipper or can recommend a dependable fellow that has transported cars for me in the past.
