1940 Ford Coupe Description

1940 Ford Coupe Barn Find ??? Actually it’s a Semi Trailer find. The original owner of this car was Tom Rice Sr. who drove the car until the late 50’s when his son Tom Rice Jr. bought the car. He hot rodded the car, note the 50’s style upholstery. Tom sold the car to Lyle McDaniel in 1965, but never licensed or drove the car. Lyle sold the car to his nephew Dirk in 1972. Dirk and his wife stated rebuilding the car. They had it painted and installed a flathead out of a 1946 Ford Siebert Hearse/Ambulance. The engine was supposed to have 1500 miles and the trans 2500 miles on a rebuild. Dirk came on hard times and borrowed $1000 from his dad using the car for collateral. Dirk’s dad put the car in a 40’s semi trailer and it has been there ever since. Now I know you guys from high humidity areas are thinking this car is a rusted pile of junk being in a semi for 46 years. The car was in Colorado the enter time and our annual average humidity is 10 %. The body on this car is excellent. Looking at all of the common rust areas it is very nice. Fenders and hood are very good. Floors are solid. Trunk floor is not rusty but does have some dents from items being placed in it. The engine turns freely and I believe it would start. Most of the parts are there for the car. The bumpers are straight but scratched and scuffed so need to be plated. The dash and cluster are excellent. Most of the moldings are there and very good. The moldings on the cowl are missing and the hood trim is broken. One bar is missing in one of the grille. Seats are there but need to be reupholstered. Excellent car for a restoration or rod project. In fact this car would be pretty neat driver reassembled just like it is. Undercarriage and additional photos available upon request. Clear Colorado title. Can find transportation anywhere. Call Rich at 719-338-1053 with any questions.
