1970 Ford Torino GT Description

I am the 4th owner of this car and know it's complete history..I purchased this from a local small town Auction and it was sold due to medical reasons in the family, along with a 1971 mustang mach 1...This is an original 1970 Ford Torino GT that came into the world olive green with a brown Interior..the last owner of 19 years had this car painted a ford blue and the stripe is painted as well, not a decal...this car sat in a heated garage and was driven every veterans day in our local parade here in Gilmanto, Wis...interesting enough, the 2nd owner of this vehicle was bidding for the car at the Auctio, and I found out after I purchased the car as he and his wife come up to me and asked if he could buy it ...not being mean, I just merely told him that I would give him the opportunity after I had went through the vehicle completely and restored it...It has a very well running 351 Cleveland Engine with a two barrel carb...the transmissio, drive train and rear 9 inch rear is original,C6 Transmission, works as it did in 1970...I pulled the engin, removed the hideaway lights, removed the das, seat, top and went through everything from the front to the back, including brakes...the tires are about 10 years old as well, and have little wear...American Racing rims were added at that time as the stock magnum rims were rusted...the Torino had a new Custom top put on it when it was painted with a plastic window ( which won't break) as I would have done too. From the front to the trunk the only thing that has been replaced is the 2 barrel carb, in which was replaced with the same original but new, as it cost more to rebuild the old one...Pulling the motor we put in new front and rear seals as they were oka, but time was to do it then ..pulled the valve covers and there was no gunk build up what so ever..power washed and repainted Engine to Ford spec's and painted the engine compartment satin black as was original to the car..the hide away lights were resprayed to original and function as they should..when you turn the car on they close and when you turn the headlights on they open...the car runs great....I kept everything original with the points instead of going with electronic iginition..as all plug, wiring, and all engine components are new..including distributo, air cleaner ...I rebuilt the battery tray, as it was somewhat eaten a way a bit, but it is better then new now...there was a new tub added due to the fact that the weather stripping hardened over the years and water rotted the tub sides..when tub was put in, additional supports were added on both sides of the car, as to added stability. This was done in the early 90's....all fluids were changed as well, all felt, weather stripping throughout the vehicle has been change, new carpeting, seats refoamed and reshaped and upholstered with Corinthian vinyl and fit like a glove ..the car is beautiful..the dash board was replaced with a new one, the original was black and cracked...I replaced it the right way and had it dyed to match the interior...as the whole dash was black...each to their own I reckon, I replaced the lighting of the das, not with LED, as that is fairly straight forward instead of spreading as I wished ...replaced the plastic that covers the cluster with two piece lexo, which is clear and very easy to read...all gauges have been gone through and work as they should, I replaced the original am radio with a high quality AM/FM Ford radio...the 3x 9 inch speaker was replaced also, with technology changing so did the quality of the speakers today..it is crisp and clear....it has a manual choke on it as well as vents that work as they should too..the sill plates were replaced as well..I have all documentation including all receipts to the new owner...this is a excellent driver quality car that unlike some I have seen on e-ba, is 45 years old but doesn't drip...and I don't recall any squeaks either...but is sits covered in our heated garage with a matching cover on it...it has a boot for the power top that matches and high quality and does not fly off at sixty miles per hour...I'm sure there's a few things I'm missing but there are no dissappointments here...it's fun to drive and the power steering is excellent as well...dual horns work great as well..new shocks and had new brake lines added as at some point in time they had been altered ..has front power disc and drum rears..it stops well, and not a tight pedal as some..it's been a two year plus build and it takes a lot of time...what's left to be done is minima, the windows need a little adjusting thought the roll up and down fine, I wasn't quite sure how to do this but they are not a problem, thi, as any convertible from this period has been hand washed and I wouldn't suggest going through any power wash...even if it was brand new, you'd get washed with the car in todays automatic wash..it still is 45 years old...there are two small bubbles in the paint that I can see and will show..it has not been driven more then a couple of thousand miles now in the last 20 years...I have added a lead supplement to the unleaded as to not scour the valves over the long run...this is a daily driver and a super sharp looking vehicle that can very easily be brought up to whatever you want...there are less then 150 of these documented left...it was designed by Bill Shenk and I am adding the original story of the Torino with this car, as that is important to me how it come into existence...it's a way cool car and the future is bright for whomever buys this..the weather stripping I purchased for this 1970 is only tacked, or glued in a few places...the reason is its a six piece that once it is glued its not easy to remove...I shimmed the trim down .030 to accompany the weather stripping, as I found when purchasing thi, and it's expensive ($530) that the weather stripping that is sold today for all convertibles from 70-71 are not exact...I have contacted the maker in California whom is John Bortz at 760 738 8164 when I noticed it worked but wasn't what originally came with that year of Ford...he took over the business from his father whom passed about six years ago now and upon talking to him he was still going through the large number of molds used in making this...he is the only manufacturer of this stripping and finding it NOS...not around...however, I will contact him as he agreed to replace for free the actual weather stripping...that's why I merely tacked it, glued it in enough spots to be used until the new will be available...I will call him today and verify this...other then what I have described ...I see no issue's with this car...it needs to be driven, you ..without a doubt could bury the speedometer...I cannot verify the miles but I have been around long enough to know when the odometer gets turned over 99 % of the time the numbers just do not align straight anymore...I did rechrome correctly the rear bumper and I felt the front one was very presentable...perhaps just a good buffing would be good but there's no embarrassment what so ever with this survivor...it's non air of course ..but it's a convertible...someone might want to put electronic iginition in but I thought there are folks that like them as they were...I put a temperature gauge cap on the radiator so you can see that it runs at a great temp...I have gone through the cylinders on the top, bled them and replaced the line's and added new fluid so your good to go there too...the top goes down and up flawlessly...it can also be put up manually...however the power top was an add on then and you don't even want to know what the knob for that would cost if this didn't have one....you can put as much money as you wish in these cars...I brought this up right, and I did not do a cheap job...it's ready for the next 45 years ...and I will only sell this to someone whom understands how to take care of such cars...it will go to a good home ...one that doesn't sit it outside everyday...the cover comes with it ...I do not have a spare tire for it, and I felt this is something that is not needed ...I have perhaps only driven this car 200 miles in my re-building of it...just to insure it responds as it should...this is a fine car that will without a doubt fetch the eye of any collector and builder of vehicles...because it was done right...even with a ten year old pain, it has not been abused, and it shows it...it goes straight down the road and is very responsive ...it will surprise you...there is no warranty that I will put on this...but I will say this..I will work with the new owner on getting the correct weather stripping for this...but if you ordered the stripping today...you'd get the same as is what's on it...no matter whom you purchase it from...sorry for being long winde, but I believe it's very important to state what one knows and has done to insure the new owner the entire unhidden truth about this vehicle..I have the original Kodak picture's of this prior to painting...but remember, you do have a 45 year old car, but one that has been taken care of and updated correctly and right...please feel free to ask many any questions...come and drive it home, come and look at it if your close...pictures do not lie and non are doctored neither ...I have all pictures from tear down to building up...one hou, one day, one month and two years of work...I have not included any labor cost in this build...I enjoyed it and some of the challenge's I learned as I went through it...my phone number is 715 946 3632...have been on E-bay since 1999 and have a 100 % feedback for a reason....thank you for looking ...and God Bless you and your family's...I am a Farmer here in Wisconsin, with a wonderful wife and four children...all, whom in which are Border Collies....What remains to be done to this Torino GT is to adjust the windows, to fit the weatherstripping, with perhaps a door adjustment..do remember, the car wash systems today are too powerful for these old convertibles...this has always been hand washed here..I'm selling this reasonable as its time to pass the torch to someone whom can finish this vintage Muscle Torino out to how you want it...be a great resto-mod cruiser...and unlike so many other cars, there are very few of these Convertible Torino GT's left period....the European Market is strong for American cars....again, thanks for watching ...

I am revising this do to a message I received from a person whom claimed he worked for Ford Motor during the time this Ford was made....I was informed that this 351 2 V motor is a Windsor instead of a Cleveland ..The person that owned this prior to me, as with the Mechanic that pulled the motor for me both told me it was a Cleveland...looking up the vin I found only that it was a 351 2v..please check the vin and you can see what I found...the previous owner passed, and the original owner is passed as well ...I was told by one person that this isn't even a Torino..I can't make this stuff up...I've tracked the ownership of this car for 35 years and saved it from the bone yard...I have put 23K total into thi, asking 16 K...one can only look and see what the convertible GT Torino's sell for to know this is priced to sell...I'd rather not part it out...but will do what is necessary, as my wife needs to put her new truck in our garage...thanks for looking...dale
