BODY
This sterling coupe is a low-mileage land rocket that, like most of our factory-fresh offerings, is virtually spotless in every way. The car's super straight body began life wearing a glossy faade of Race Red 2-stage which, during the transition from Shelby to Saleen, was replaced with Chromolly Silver Custom Car Show Paint. And, naturally, that liquid-smooth pigment laid the groundwork for a blanket of Saleen modifications that are tastefully designed and carefully applied. At the front of those mods, a sequentially numbered high-flow fascia frames standard HID headlights and a familiar Blade grille that's finished with both Saleen and Shelby emblems. Behind that grille, a Saleen Red Butterfly Induction Hood leads the eye to color-keyed mirrors and Saleen-branded Solar Control glass that's capped by a Saleen Scenic Roof. At the sides of that roof, aggressive Saleen rockers and stylish Saleen chevrons frame factory cobras, a short antenna and requisite "S351 SUPERCHARGED" emblems. And at the back of the car, a muted Saleen fascia hangs factory taillights between an aggressive diffuser, a traditional Saleen bumper cover, slight body extensions and a functional Saleen wing.
DRIVETRAIN
Saleen's oft-repeated motto has always been "Power in the Hands of a Few". And with this Mustang, there's LOTS of power in the hands of VERY few. Locked, loaded and ready to roll, the 32-valve, dual overhead cam monster that rumbles beneath the aforementioned hood is, by far, the car's biggest selling point. Punched out to 351 cubic inches, and rebuilt with a forged crank, forged rods, forged pistons and a high performance cam, that rev-happy V8 is essentially an extreme version of Ford's award-winning Trinity 'mod motor'. And thanks to the addition of high performance valve springs, CNC-ported heads and a Saleen twin-screw supercharger, power is just as extreme, with an even 700 horses melting into 655 lb./ft. of track-torching torque. That torque flows through a rugged Tremec TR6060 6-speed, which drives big, 3.55 gears that mix spectacular wheel spin with great acceleration. That drivetrain hangs in a Saleen High Performance Suspension, which cages S4 springs, S4 struts, S4 shocks and sturdy S4 sway bars in Ford AdvanceTrac traction control. Turns come courtesy of Ford's efficient electronic power steering. Stops are provided by a combination of Ford and Saleen calipers, which utilize standard ABS to squeeze a combination of 15 and 13.8-inch rotors. A menacing soundtrack is provided by high performance exhaust, which hangs high performance mufflers in front of polished stainless tips. And ample grip is supplied by optional Saleen Black Chrome 5-spokes, which spin meaty 275/35ZR20 Pirelli P Zeros in front of meatier 275/40ZR20 Pirelli P Zeros.
INTERIOR
Inside this low-slung Ford, Saleen carries their familiar chevron aesthetic onto rich leather and alcantara seats that feature full power adjustment for the car's driver. In front of those buckets, an autographed dash hangs factory telemetry behind a sequential Saleen plaque and satin silver trim. At the center of that dash, crisp Shaker audio combines with standard SYNC infotainment to become a one-stop shop for all your auditory and convenience needs. Beneath that tech, a wide console traces a Saleen-branded shifter. Beneath that console, illuminated Saleen sills frame like-new carpet, which balances clean Saleen floor mats under metal-trimmed foot pedals. The driver stays connected through a leather-wrapped, Saleen-branded steering wheel. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a high dollar muscle car are present and accounted for including: cruise control, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors and Remote Keyless Entry that's complete with built in theft deterrent software.
HISTORY
