Super Custom 4x4 E350 Overland Self-Contained Camper Bug-out Survival RV
1989 Ford E-Series Van Super Duty Description
History and Configuration
This 1989 Ford Econoline E350 was built by a utility company as a cold weather rig. All conversions were done through the dealer, which include 4x4 conversion, along with a 1 1/2 ton rear end, and a Timpte insulated box that is integrated to the chassis and includes a pass through to the cab. This is a very well done addition, and has no squeaks or rattles you might expect from a normal box truck.
The state of Colorado purchased it at 12,800 miles for geological testing. It was mostly parked at drill sites and used as a mobile lab.
A private owner then bought it at 17k miles and hardwood floors and an interior were built out for living off the grid. I have used it for several West-Coast trips including desert and heavy Ice/Snow. While slow offroad, it can handle steep inclines and loose dirt/gravel very well. Ice and Snow are no problem whatsoever, I've experienced several blizzards and was able to double the speed of every other vehicle on the road while forging my own trail in the fast lane.- Timpte Insulated box with windows and ventilation

Condition
Starts perfectly, NO LEAKS, NO RUST, good tires, recent service, 29k ORIGINAL miles, interior 10/10, just passed CA Smog with flying colors, smooth shifting, 12k miles put on it these past two years, all the kinks are worked out. Only a few negatives - an exhaust leak from passenger side header which makes a bit of a funny noise under acceleration - The roof-mounted A/C shroud is cracked - The side door caught on a guard rail in an avoidance maneuver (other driver in my lane). It will need new hinges to be reattached. In the meantime I use it to store firewood for trips but it's the perfect compartment for a generator with remote fuel pump and power already run.
This van gets way more attention than any other car I own. You'll turn heads wherever you go, or escape it all and live off the grid for a while. This would make the perfect Burning Man mobile, or overland expedition vehicle. It's slow, but will get you anywhere you want to go and let you stay there for a while. I can live off-grid for a week or more on the battery power. You can live comfortably in this if it's plugged in or solar panels are added. There isn't another vehicle like this out there. Registered as an RV, so cheap to own, insure, and register.
