SUMMARY
1-owner car that's logged only 644 milesFor a storied automotive manufacturer, there's nothing better than having their latest and greatest product lead a field of fire-breathing competitors around a major race venue. And in March of 2009, a muscle-bound Shelby, much like the showroom-fresh gem you see here, paced NASCAR's annual Las Vegas race. That said; it wasn't just some flash in the pan photo op car that looked good on TV. Shelby American actually sponsored a special 427-mile event and built a small run of top-of-the-line GT500s to commemorate their participation. This coupe, 1 of only 202 produced, takes the herd-leading performance of its common Super Snake brethren and adds big exclusivity, $6K worth of unique aesthetics and a roster of one-of-a-kind enhancements. Are you looking for an incredible muscle car that's fast, easy to live with and up for anything? Then take the lead on this showroom-fresh Shelby!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Shelby originally planned to sell 427 of their ultimate pace cars to honor the 427-mile race that, itself, honored their legendary 427 Cobra. Unfortunately, the company only received 202 orders, and that means classics like this decaled curve-carver are even more rare than the company's already exclusive GT500 Super Snakes. Purchased through Gray Ford in DeRidder, Louisiana, and owned by one North Carolina resident throughout its entire existence, this Ford has been so well kept that it's never even been washed. The car's super straight body displays a glossy coat of Performance White 2-stage that's never felt rain or, for that matter, seen much time outside of a building. And that bright pigment lays the groundwork for a blanket of professional pace car ornamentation that's tasteful, unique and interesting. Of course, this blue oval bombshell has never seen a body shop because it's a 100% accident and damage-free showpiece that's backed by a clean CarFax. There's essentially nothing on the car that could be considered more than requisite shelf wear. And, to throw a little icing on the cake, it's been signed by a roster of automotive A-Listers that includes: Carroll Shelby, Steve Saleen, Jack Roush, John Force, Ashley Force, Don 'The Snake' Prudhomme, Lee Iacocca, Bill Ford, Edsel Ford, Bob Tasca Sr., Bob Tasca III, John Clor and Janine Bay.
When up close and personal with Ford's GT500, it becomes clear the firm's designers focused on creating a car that looks tailored and substantial in comparison to its "lesser" counterparts. And this killer Mustang, with its high quality body kit, panther-like stance and fully detailed exterior, is about as "substantial" as it gets! At the front of the mean mare, a familiar Mustang grille hangs a 40th Anniversary Cobra emblem between smoked headlights, a carbon fiber splitter and a sculpted valance that's complete with smoked fog lamps. At the top of that grille, a pinned Super Snake hood centers bold "S H E L B Y" lettering in front of chip-free factory glass. At the sides of that hood, carbon fiber rockers anchor capped mirrors between Shelby 40th Anniversary fender emblems, aggressive side scoops and a short antenna. And at the back of the car, sequential taillights, bold trunk lettering and a satin faux fuel filler reflect a large, trunk-mounted spoiler, an aggressive valance and polished exhaust tips.
ENGINE
Created as a turnkey package for enthusiasts who want a reliably engineered Mustang that unlocks the full potential of Ford's legendary 'mod motor', the top-of-the-line Super Snake utilizes a Kenne Bell twin-screw supercharger to crank out an astonishing 725 horsepower. Front-and-center, the car's polished blower makes good use of a Kenne Bell cold air induction system, which marries clean aesthetics with excellent efficiency. At the sides of the engine, dynamic SVT coil covers combine with an array of Shelby caps and dipsticks to dress things up a bit. As with all Shelby specialties, this Mustang proudly displays a consecutively numbered Shelby American badge that verifies the car's authenticity. Aesthetically, the spotless mill features a typical OEM-level appearance that displays hardly any signs of usage. And when you twist the eager engine's key, you become the lead composer of a veritable orchestra of sinister whines and octane-fueled roars!
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
As most performance car fans already know, this Mustang's SVT-tuned suspension is nothing short of excellent. And with a few of Shelby's choice bolt-ons, it sticks to the corners like the high-speed luge winner at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The firm's upgrades began with a Shelby/Eibach suspension that straightens the curves, progressed to Shelby/Brembo brakes that scrub big speed, and ended with a Shelby/Pirelli footprint that keeps power planted to the pavement. Behind the smooth engine, a slick-shifting Tremec TR6060 6-speed sends power to big, 3.73 gears and a Ford limited-slip differential. At the corners of the car, two Ford calipers and the aforementioned Brembos squeeze vented rotors behind optional Shelby brake ducts. Turns come courtesy of Ford's super-efficient power-assisted steering. Exhaust flows through large-diameter pipes to an X-shaped crossover and highly polished tips. And all that first class agility rolls on forged Shelby wheels, which spin 255/35ZR20 Pirelli P Zeros in front of 275/35ZR20 Pirelli P Zeros.
INTERIOR
Inside this Ford, bolstered seats hang ornate pace car headrests above embossed Cobra insignias and a monochromatic, leather-wrapped steering wheel that's adorned with convenient thumb buttons. The dash is a familiar Mustang layout that founds satin-trimmed instruments and a programmable "SVT" shift light beside a sequential plaque and integrated Shelby accessory gauges. Below that plaque, an optional Shaker 1000 stereo combines MP3 compatibility with a 6-disc CD changer to become a one-stop shop for all your audio entertainment needs. Below that stereo, a short-throw shifter leads an impressive console that's detailed with a Shelby-branded lid. Beneath that console, rich carpet flows past pace car floor mats and metal-trimmed foot pedals to clean pace car sill plates. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a high dollar modern car are ready and waiting including: cruise control, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, a power driver's seat and Remote Keyless Entry.
