Thank you! 1960 FORD THUNDERBIRD HARDTOP I am very pleased to offer this rare and exceptional 1960 Ford Thunderbird. Often called the square bird this Thunderbird first spread its wings on July 26th 1960 at Gillespie Motor Company of San Antonio, TX. Madeline Merrett drove away or should I say flew away in this gorgeous T-Bird that day and kept the car until her death in 1987 upon which her daughter Carol assumed ownership. Carol lived in Wisconsin at that time as well as her son who she entrusted the Bird. The next owner was Russell Westmeyer of Waverly, IA. A Mr. Ned Werling of Lexington, KY became the next owner in the early 2000’s with 18000 miles showing on the odometer. He entered the T-bird in the Keeneland Concours in 2004. He later sold it in or around 2010 to a Jim Smith also from Lexington. It is always nice to have a history of a car and the significance here is that it appears every owner loved and cared for this automobile. Well I think it is time to tell you something about the car itself. As the pictures testify it is simply beautiful. The exterior is paint code M Corinthean White. This T-bird has been refinished and is simply show quality. It appears that everything else is original with excellent bright chrome and an original interior. There is no doubt that this T-bird has always been garage kept all of its life. Upon careful examination you will find a couple of paint nicks but no rust, no deep scratches and no accident damage. Under the hood is original with no repainting to hide problems. A good cleaning of the engine and refinishing the valve covers would make it almost look brand new again. In the trunk you will find the correct wheel covers and you will also find new seat foam and new carpeting. Talk about anal it hardly needs carpeting as the original is amazingly nice. Last but not least is an extensive package of documentation containing owner’s manual, dealer brochure, window sticker, ownership records, catalog where the car was shown at the Keeneland Concours, service manuals and more. Mechanically this T-bird is very rewarding. It drives excellent with a beautiful soft comfortable ride, great sounding engine and brakes that will stop you. The A/C will need to be serviced but the system functions correctly. The faults are few. The left rear quarter window does not go up or down and the clock does not tick. Aside from that all other systems seem fine. Is there anything I have left out and did I mention the tires are radials. Well I am sure you get the picture. This is an extraordinary car that is turn key. This is also a very difficult car to find in this condition with this much documentation and best of all one you can drive and show. Is it the best one in the world? I am certain it is not but your friends will think it is. Best of all you can be the next owner. Thanks so much for looking and caring. As always if you have any questions simply call or email. Remember many of our offerings are sold before the auction ends. If you wish to make an offer, call me on my personal cell at 859-533-8238.
