Here we have a gorgeous, 1939 Ford DeLuxe custom convertible. In 1937, the Ford Motor company wanted to bridge the gap between the Standard (Base) models and the luxury Lincoln models. Their answer was the upscale Ford DeLuxe line. The DeLuxe line was marketed as a separate line between 1937 and 1940. The style was heavily influenced by Edsel Ford, Henry Ford's son. They borrowed many styling ques from the Lincoln Zephyr, like the oval headlights, nicely incorporated into the front fenders. Other front-end features were V-shaped grille and vertical bars. The Convertible Sedan was one of six body styles available for 1939. At only 2,861 cars, It had the fewest numbers produced, with a sparse few still remaining today. This DeLuxe started off with a hard top, now sports a Carlson Chop Top, and was custom built in California. It spent six years parked in the City of Oakland California Museum, until it was purchase by a private collector in Hershey, PA. The interior of this convertible is completely re-done, with full custom red seats and door panels, the stunning wood grain dash bearing the factory gauges. The V8 Flathead engine with Offenhauser high performance racing heads is hidden under the sweeping bonnet, but really is a show stopper. It begs to be seen, for it is a piece of automotive art. The 125 horsepower that it produces is sent though a three-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. The classic wide white walls with spinner hub caps add the final touches to this great example of an American Classic.
