1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Cobra Jet Description

When you see a first year Mach 1 with the big block Cobra Jet V8, you know this car had to be painted green because of the all the envy it generates. We can't seem to keep this vintage Mustang in our showroom, and this is one rare pony! The Mach 1 was the perfect canvas to showcase Ford's refreshed Mustang for 1969. The body was stretched to have a meaner street presence, and this new premium package was not shy about its prowess. The Mach 1s looked ready for the track with standard hood pins and flat black hood paint to reduce glare for the driver. This one is optioned with the desirable (and functional) shaker hood. Mach 1 coupes were automatically given the striking SportsRoof fastback body and chrome wheel package, but runners like this were then upgraded with the sporty rear window louvers as well as front and rear spoilers. The "Black Jade" green paint is a throwback to a shade available in earlier years, making this Mach 1 even more unique. Plus, the gold undertones have a striking way of matching with the yellow sports stripe. It's not just us suggesting its attractiveness. This is a show car, and you even get the trophies to prove it!

The Mach 1 was the most expensive Mustang model aside from the Shelby line, so Ford made sure that buyers got their money's worth, especially in the interior. These cars came standard with features such as a three-spoke RimBlow deluxe steering wheel, electric clock, and high-backed bucket seats all of which are intact on this coupe. The Mustang's famously long options list meant the first owner loaded this car even further by ticking the box for items such as power steering, power brakes, and AM/FM radio (currently not in the car but comes with the purchase.) If everything appears a little fresher than other Mustangs you've looked at recently, it's likely due to a restoration performed in the last eight years (you can judge for yourself with the included receipts.) This is particularly apparent on the acres of wood onlay, which when in pristine condition like this, feels like sitting in a comfy time machine. The red flooring and matching accents in the seats are correct for this car and add a subtle reminder that this pony car is secretly a beast.

This is an R-code Mustang, which means the big block 428 cubic inch V8 with ram air is under this hood. Engines from this era were famously underrated, so the impressive 335 hp rating from the factory was really pushing a mind-blowing 400+ hp. It is mated to a stout Ford C6 three-speed automatic transmission, and it is sent to the road via Ford's Traction-Lok limited slip differential running a 3.25 ratio. The combination of the Mach 1 package and this big engine further sweetened the deal by automatically getting upgraded to Ford's HD competition suspension. This beefed up the front spindles, shocks, shock towers, and anti-roll bar to make sure that this Mustang could handle the extra muscle. Ford even upgraded this package with the sport exhaust with quad tips (everything can be verified in the detailed Marti report included with the car.) The cherry on top of this coupe is that all this power can be kept in check thanks to the optional front disc brakes.

There is a lot of 'Wow' factor in this documented Mustang. For you it will be about pouring through the original owner's manual and restoration receipts. Everyone else will flock to everything from the paint to the massive motor. This is the kind of pony car that turns a crowd into a stampede to see a thoroughbred. Call today!
