1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Description

1969 Mustang Mach 1, 117k orig miles, one owner until I bought it last year. Very original and ummolested example that is an excellent candidate for restoration. Well optioned with M code 351W 4V, FMX automatic, Candyapple Red paint, black deluxe interior, power steering, power disc brakes and visibility group. If you want an original and well optioned car to restore, this is the car for you. If you want a restomod you should probably move on.

Matching # engine with almost all original items like radiator, shroud, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds and carb. Currently has a Holley carb on it but the original carb is included. The only modifications are a very old electronic ignition added to original distributor and some aluminum valve covers. Comes with original license plates, dealer invoice, window sticker, owner cards and brochure. Even comes with a recall letter from Ford dated 1977 for the driver's seat which I have never seen before. I was aware of the recall but have never seen the actual letter. Always a Washington State car.

Data plate reads

Color T, DSO 74, Body 63C, Trim 3AA, Date 14B, Axle 9, Trans X

The paint appears to be original and has surface rust in spots, is faded and has plenty of chips and scratches. The body is overall pretty solid with some minor rust. There is no major rust anywhere but has a small amount in several typical spots. No evidence of previous accidents other than visible dents. Still has the original fenders with matching date codes. There is a dent below the stripe in the left rear quarter behind the wheel and a dent in the right rear at the very back where it looks like they backed into something. There is a shallow dent in the passenger fender as well. Both valances are dented. The quarters, frame rails and shock towers are solid with no noticeable rust. There is one rust spot in the driver’s side front floor where the seat riser meets the floorpan and another near the torque box that could easily be patched, passenger side floor looks good. Also, one very small hole in the driver’s torque box. Doors are overall solid with a little bulging starting in the lower corners. Trunk floor looks pretty good. A little rust around the drain hole in the driver’s trunk dropoff, passenger side looks good. Looks good around the taillights but has rust at the top of the tail panel visible when the trunk is open. Has typical rust where inner fenders overlap under hood. Hood has rust on underside from condensation and should be replaced. Shock towers look good with no cracks. Trunk lid is good and the lip is tight with no swelling. There is one small hole on the underside from condensation that could be patched. Original wheels are in good shape as are rings and caps. I found one small ding in one of the trim rings but otherwise rings and caps are very nice. Tires are 30+ years old and should obviously be replaced. Glass is good but windshield does have various chips etc and should be replaced when the car is restored. Door glass needs to be glued into tracks. Still has original stainless exhaust tips.

The interior is all original and mostly serviceable. Carpet is a bit faded and dirty but still looks pretty good for original carpet. Upholstery also looks pretty good with no major rips or separations but does have minor imperfections. Door panels have minor cracks but still look pretty good. Headliner and dashpad need replacement.

It has been off the road since the early 80’s. I bought it with the intention of restoring it with my 14 year old son but he wants a restomod and I think this car should be restored to stock since it is so original. As a result, we bought a 70 fastback that we can restore and modify for him. Since we were planning on keeping it we pre oiled the engine before startup, replaced the fuel lines, pump and sending unit. The carb was rebuilt and the fuel tank had no rust inside so it was retained. It now starts and runs good with no knocks and good oil pressure. It does need a new exhaust system as the one on it now is rusty and leaks. The heads were apparently rebuit with 90k or so miles but the rest of the engine has never been touched. As a result, it does have some leaks as you would expect. We also fully rebuilt the brakes with new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, calipers and all new rubber brake lines. The car runs and drives now but needs new exhaust and tires to be a driver. Transmission works well and the brakes work very well as you would expect. Steering also has typical play for an unrestored car.

Electrical is good and signals, lights, interior lights, wipers, heater, etc all work. Even the reverse lights, seat belt light and emergency brake light works. The horn does not work since the steering wheel needs a new switch.

Overall this car could either be driven with some minor mechanical work if you like the original “patina” look or restored. With the originality of this car it deserves a high end original style restoration and would be worth top dollar when done. There are just not that many Mach 1’s out there with all original matching # and date code parts. And how many of these are a good color and well optioned with original documentation? There is no major rust or damage that would scare anyone off and you don’t have to do a bunch of searching for correct parts.

Car is sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. It is available for inspection by appointment only. I have done my best to describe it accurately but please understand that this is a 47 year old vehicle that needs restoration. I have sold quite a few cars on ebay and try very hard to describe them accurately and to make sure potential buyers have any information I would want as a buyer. International buyers are welcome. In fairness to all bidders I will not disclose the reserve. I reserve the right to end the auction early, however, my intention is to let the auction run its course unless someone hits the buy-it-now. Reserve is less than buy it now. Full payment must be made within 5 days of auction end and vehicle must be picked up within 21 days of auction end unless prior arrangements are made. Bidders with a feedback rating of less than 10 must contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel your bid.
