1987 Ford Thunderbird turbo coupe 2.3l
1987 Ford Thunderbird Description
This Thunderbird is in every nice overall condition. It runs and drives great. I built the car about 7 years ago with plans to keep it forever, but plans change. I don't have time to enjoy it so that's why it's up for sale. I've only put about 4k miles on it since then. The rest of the time it's stored in a garage under cover.
When I built the car I stripped it to the bare body. The door James, engine bay trunk and window channels were all media blasted. The car was then painted in Red fire metallic. The paint is not perfect but nice. There are two bubbles on the fiberglass hood about the size of a dime. They showed open a month after the paint was laid, haven't gotten worse since. Also the door Jambs have over spray that I never got around to rubbing out. The trim in the side molding was also color matched to the body. There are also some small imperfections on the nose of the car from stone chips etc that were not caught before the paint was laid. All in all the paint is very nice but not perfect. The thunderbird is rot free. That's why I used this one to build. All the window trim was blasted and powder coated. The last picture is when the car was completely stripped coming back from media blasting.
This Thunderbird stops on a dime. It's been converted to vacuum brakes. The front discs have been replaced with 13" cobra setup. The calipers were color matched to the body. The rotors are drilled and slotted. The rear brake are factory turbo coupe with the exception of EBC yellow stuff pads. The car also has an adjustable proportion valve and a line lock.
The engine runs great. The turbo was replaced with a T3. There is a manual boost control valve. The E6 exhaust manifold was ported. There is a large front mount intercooler and a custom rotated upper intake manifold. The radiator was replaced with a large aluminum unit. Valve cover was powder coated and polished. The transmission shifts good and I just replaced the clutch and pressure plate. The A/C has been removed, but it wouldn't be hard to put it back on.
The interior is the original two tone grey with leather seats. The carpet is new. The headliner was replaced but it's sagging some in the rear. The radio was replaced with a pioneer unit. All the gauges have been replaced with Auto Meter units. Seats are in descent shape but showing their age . The only tear is in the rear seat from using a child seat on it. The trunk liner has some Staines on it but is still descent. The driver seat is power.
I replaced the steering rack with a manual unit, I can't remember what brand any more. Going down the road you would not know it. Obviously it's a bit harder when parking but not bad at all.
The wheels are 18" x 8" in the front with 235/50-18 and the rear are 18"x9" with 275/40-18. Tires are all in nice condition. The fronts rub sometime if you hit a big pothole. I had 225 on before and they didn't do that. The car was lowered but I don't remember how much. The factory posi was rebuilt using extra friction discs to make it hold better. The gears are 3.73. The car also has maximum motorsports caster camber plates.
That's everything I can think of . If you have any questions ask them before bidding. Read the payment instructions and only bid if you can meet them. The car is for sale locally so auction could end.
