FRAME:
Was originally a 3/4 ton long bed (still titled that way)
Purchased a 1970 1/2 ton long bed frame and shortened it.
Z-notch was done the right way, under the cab.
Cuts were made with a plasma cutter and a jig.
Center-line of z-notch was cut 16" forward of rear cab mount.
Mated front and rear half, tac-welded, cross checked welded and rechecked measurements to ensure frame did not twist or contort while welding
Frame was reattached, front half to back half by welding both the inside and outside of notch cuts and finish sanded on outside of frame rails
Fish plate welded to inside of frame rails.
Frame, suspension and rear-end was bead blasted to bare metal and painted in three full coats of Rustolium Satin Black #7777 from a gun
BED:
Original long bed was cut using a plasma cutter and jig.
Forward cut was made 12" back from front of bed and 12" was removed from that point moving towards the wheel well
Rear cut was made after wheel well, 8" was removed.
bed floor was notched forward and rearward allowing the rear tailgate section and bed sections, and the font panel and bed sections to be reunited and appear continuous
More welding will need to be done to complete the task but the hard part is done
CAB AND FRONT CLIP:
Both left and right inner and outer rocker panels have been cut out and replaced
Drivers side floorboard has been cut out from rocker to transmission tunnel and replaced
Partial passenger floorboard replacement done from passenger rocker to about 10" in towards tranny tunnel
Both door bottoms have been cut out, Drivers door bottom replacement has been cut to fit, passenger door bottom replacement still needs to be cut to fit
Original dash was rusted out at drivers side at the window channel, it was removed and a clean rust free original takeout dash was purchased
There is still a little rust repair to do at the footwells, but it is minor or not necessary depending on how you want the interior to look
Firewall is in great shape as are inner fenders, fenders and grill. Radiator core support is mostly great accept under battery tray - i was ok with it.
All glass is in great shape but front windshield was damaged and removed
Plans were:
short bed conversion
detail engine and entire chassis
redo the soft interior (was undecided about the hard surfaces but had started sanding the metal and considered repainting in original color)
Scuff exterior and clear in satin, same with entire engine compartment
