SUMMARY
1-owner car that's logged only 7,241 milesThere's simply no denying the fact that Honda's S2000 was at the pinnacle of a wave of Japanese performance that inspired a whole generation of enthusiasts. But, depending on which side of the coin those enthusiasts find themselves on, that legendary status can be either good or bad. For example, finding a 1-owner, completely unaltered gem like the New Formula Red roadster you see here poses a bit of a challenge. On the other hand, owning a low-mileage, 100% Honda-serviced piece like this fully documented drop-top is quite the financial boon. Well, at RK Motors Charlotte, we believe everyone should be lucky enough to own their dream car. And if you've been lusting after a sweet, showroom-fresh S2000, here's your chance to flip that coin!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Looking low, wide and aggressive in original New Formula Red 2-stage, this spry 2-seater mixes knife edge styling with tailored detailing to convey a decidedly youthful vibe. Enduring a mere 7,241 miles of weekend driving, the car has to be one of the best kept, showroom-fresh S2000s on the planet. And, accordingly, a clean CarFax report maintains that its aerodynamic body has never been roughed up or repaired. That body's panel gaps serve as an incredibly precise foundation for a power convertible top. According to the one previous owner, that excellent fitment spent the majority of the last 15 years stored in a garage. Naturally, all service work has been handled by a certified Honda dealer. And overall, this roadster appears to have led a pampered life that likely counted sunny show days and warm weekend road trips as its only notable outings.
ENGINE
Like its incredible aesthetics, this Honda's 2.0 liter powerplant highlights exceptional engineering prowess. Lift the hood and you'll find an original F20C 4-cylinder that, in the spirit of a rev-happy racer, twists an 8,800 RPM redline into 240 horsepower and 153 lb./ft. of torque. Essentially perfect for the car's featherweight mass and small footprint, that hot mill utilizes roller rockers, forged shallow skirt pistons and a long, 84mm stroke to provide a reliable mix of Main Street efficiency and world class performance. A perfect amount of oxygen flows from a nose-fed filter element through a factory throttle body to a clean, aluminum intake. That oxygen mixes with fuel under a tweaked VTEC system, which optimizes cam profile for an optimal torque band. When that system engages, at roughly 6,000 RPM, spent gases rage through factory dual exhaust. There's a redesigned cooling system that, like the motor, is unique to this ilk of Honda. And all those components happily thrive on everyday pump gas!
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Honda's S cars have always been great track stars. And, not surprisingly, this slick drop-top directly benefits from the brand's various motorsports endeavors. The roadster's wide fenders frame a fully independent suspension, which rides between a stiff X-bone frame and large stabilizer bars. At the center of the floors, an analog 6-speed engages a requisite limited-slip differential and sporty, 4.10 gears. Electric power rack-and-pinion steering ensures turn-in is light and constantly engaging. At the corners, a standard antilock braking system clamps power-assisted calipers on large, vented rotors. And power pounds the pavement via machined alloy wheels, which spin original 205/55R16 Bridgestone Potenza S-02s in front of original 225/50R16 Bridgestone Potenza S-02s.
INTERIOR
Behind the doors you'll find a Black leather interior that, judging by its fresh surfaces, has been lovingly shielded from intense rays of sun. The car's supportive seats are certainly more serious than average coupe fodder. A driver-oriented dash hangs digital telemetry between billet foot pedals, a concealed CD player and trick pushbutton ignition. Below that dash, a small console balances a billet-capped shifter on clean carpet, color-keyed floor mats and snazzy Honda sills. In front of the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel laps a silver Honda horn cap. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a modern sports car are present and accounted for including: power windows, power door locks, cruise control, Remote Keyless Entry and an advanced theft deterrent system.
