Difficult to find Hardtop version finished in factory code correct Fly Yellow over Gray cloth interior. Originally owned and driven by AM General executive before finding its only other owner in 2000 with 28,000 miles. Today, showing only 79,000 actual miles, it has been fully serviced by Hummer Service with fresh 12K Service, CTIS hardware upgrades, brand new tires, and more! Super sharp and an equally excellent road going unit! An H1 you must drive to truly appreciate! One of just 23 like it!!
With the Hummer brand off and running since 1992, they continued to find ways to improve the rather sparse, military born off-road vehicle to be more civilized for modern street use. Big changes came about midway through 1997 production, internally called 1997-2, these 1997.5 units had improvements that included an HVAC system providing more accessibility for easier servicing along with a blower motor that moved air more efficiently through the cabin. The Monsoon audio system was now optional and included an overhead speaker console. This was further enhanced with standard interior sound insulation for better cabin volume levels. The turbo diesel engine was also improved offering 5 additional horsepower and 45 ft. lbs. of torque. This noticeable power increased total horsepower to 195, and torque to 430, and continued with the H1 through the 2003 model year.
We are quite excited to have this very rare 1997.5 Hummer H1 Hardtop finished in a one-year only color of Fly Yellow over Gray Cloth interior. Only 1,209 H1’s were produced in 1997, but this late production Hardtop represent one of only 23 Fly Yellow Hardtops ever manufactured! Fitted with its original 6.5L Turbo-Diesel engine mated to the 4L80E 4-speed overdrive transmission, it offers plenty of power and torque to destroy any off-road trail or urban street environment! Options included power steering, power 4-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, heated windshields, Monsoon audio system with cassette player & CD changer, wood-trimmed interior, 16.5” polished alloy wheels wrapped in larger Pitbull Rocker tires, upgraded front brush guard, windshield light bar, CD radio & bumper mounted antenna, Warn Industrial 12,000 lb. wench with remote, cruise control, and full power accessories- windows, mirrors, locks, & keyless entry.
This particular late example was built in May 1997 and said to have been utilized by an AM General executive for the first few years, then sold on to the next & only owner in June of 2000 with just 28,000 miles. The second owner added only 51,000 miles over his 15 years of enjoyment while in northern Florida. It was fully repainted in late 2015 due to some sun fade and worn areas in the bed. The interior survives all original and largely unmodified with all original radio and speakers. Some auxiliary switches were added for exterior lights (later removed) and a Cobra CB radio for keeping in contact with other drivers on trail rides. Most recently, our sister company Hummer Service, completed a full inspection and complete mechanical service to make ready for the next owner. This included a more appealing front brush guard, re-polished wheels fitted with brand new tires, new front brakes pads & rotors, upgraded braided stainless steel CTIS lines, new gear hub bearings & seal kits, resealed power steering pump with new pulley, new turbo waste gate solenoid, new air conditioning compressor, and new reserve tank fuel sending unit! Lastly, it received a complete 12K service which replaces engine oil/filter, transmission filter & fluid, fuel filter, resealed transfer case with fresh gear oil, and new differential oil!
We feel this example could not be more ready to enjoy. In fact, we have enjoyed adding nearly 100 miles on the odometer since its completion to ensure it is without fault! Most first time owners find a well sorted H1 like this one to be extremely easy to manage and drive anywhere you like. This example will quickly build confidence and prove to be one of the finest on the market. Today, the odometer reads just 79,894 actual miles. It is complete with all AM General warranty records, original books & manuals, wench remote, jack, and receipts from our recent service work. Please act quickly! Only 23 units were ever made like this one, and we feel ours is one of the best, well survived examples without any past abuse! Thanks for looking!
