2000 Jaguar S-Type Base Sedan 4-Door Description

It is time to let my Jaguar go. This is a well-worn, heavily used, high-millage Jaguar S-Type that starts/stops/goes and will be sold to the highest bidder.

I’ve owned this car since 2007 and I put 130,000 miles on it, mostly commuting to jobs 1+ hours away from my home. Since 2013 it’s been my son’s car for mostly around town driving, but for the last couple of years its main action has been as a weekend car for when he’s home from college. I have moved into a new house and it’s time for the Jag to be out of my driveway, and since there’s no way the son can afford to park in downtown Chicago, it’s up for sale.

The good news is that this car stars nicely, drives, stops, and goes when you put your foot on the accelerator. The header works, as do the electric windows/seats/seat warmers, and it has a professionally hard-wired Sirius/XM Satellite radio installed that works (if you pay for the activation). Plus, it’s British Racing Green, with the famous Jaguar leather interior, and the S-Type still has the most amazing lines of any modern production vehicle I can recall.

The bad news is this is an old, tired vehicle that has some blemish on just about everything. The clear-coat on the paint is peeling, there’s some surface rust on the bottom of the passenger side doors, the interior is worn, the car has 180,000 miles, the sunroof doesn’t fully close (although it doesn’t leak into the car, and I don’t think it actually leaks at all…it just droops on one side), the tires will get you home, but they don’t match, don’t have great tread, and the front right has an egg bulging out a bit. My amazing mechanic told me a year ago or so (the last time I spent money on this car) that there were some bushings gone in the rear suspension, and while it was safe, it would be a good idea to get that fixed. I’m not spending anything on this car, and it’s been driven less than 500 miles since then, so no reason to repair it. When I moved it from my driveway to its current parking spot, the speedometer didn’t work, the ABS/Traction control lights stayed lit on the dash and the steering seemed notchy and firmer than it used to be. Again, could be something, could be nothing, but it drove great and it’s a research project for the next owner. The check engine light has been on for 5 years or so, and it looks like it's caused by a reading from thecatalyticconverter, but since it runs fine I never even considered getting it "fixed".

This could be a parts car, a demolition derby car, a nice cheap commuter to school, a good extra car for the lake house, or a spare car just in-case you ever need it. You can use it however you want, but it's still fun to drive. Either way it's time for someone else to get to enjoy this Jag.

The car comes with a regular key, the valet key, and a remote fob that doesn't work (battery?). It is being sold as-is/where-is and I expect that if you're bidding on this car, you know you might win (no reserve!) and that when you win, you'll show up with cash (please) and not make this more difficult than it should. I happen to work for the world's largest law firm, and am very comfortable bringing people into the legal system if they choose not to honor their bids. Please enjoy the spirit of this auction and keep it civil, because I hate showing off how quickly and effectively I can a non-paying bidder into court and how fast assets are attached, and how messy it all gets.
