Today's Jaguars have the added merit of being decently put-together, too. Purchasing a new Jag is no longer evidence of lunatic devotion to the brand, all other considerations notwithstanding. The new "AJ" 4.0 V-8 used in both XK8 models, for example, is an excellent and thoroughly modern powerplant. At 290 hp, it's also nice and snappy, though it would be much better if Jaguar allowed buyers the choice of a manual transmission.

Pretty much everything imaginable is standard.The DVD-based satellite navigation system is an improvement over CD-based systems, which require you to swap discs for different geographic regions.

New for 2001 are seat mounted side airbags, object-sensing park assist, a six-disc CD-changer (trunk mounted) and heaters for the front seats. The car also has a high tech, "ultrasonic" occupant detection system that adjusts airbag deployment force accordingly, or turns off the passenger-side bag entirely.

Runs and drives great! It was purchased in Texas and split it's time between CA and OK for business trips. Car is in great condition and has been very well kept and adult driven. Regular maintenance and care abound. Tires are in great shape, with minor camber wear on the front right. Paint and body are in excellent shape with some minor road rash under the front bumper. The condition of this vehicle is exquisite for it's age. It does have an abs check light(not uncommon for this model) and a very slow coolant leak. The sensor within the abs unit can be rebuilt to remove this check light very inexpensively. The interior is in excellent condition with minimal wear. Car has clear California title!
