1983 Jaguar XJ6 w/ Low Mileage 350 Chevrolet Crate Motor Vintage Denim Interior
1983 Jaguar XJ6 Description
Need a great running daily driver ? How about an affordable sport luxury sedan for weekend cruises in the country ? Or perhaps you're looking for a hassle-free classic car as a restoration hobby for the car shows.
The many possibilities include perhaps buying the car for the motor alone. The 350 Chevrolet crate motor has barely 10,000 local miles, ( if that ) . Engine just had a new 4 barrel Edelbrockcarbureto, new alternator, and new high performance distributor installed. Also has some nice chrome accents added by the previous owner. The car has two gas tanks, but one had been disconnected when I purchased it.
It runs great and has quite a lot of power, and the motor sounds amazingingly strong.Add that to the stylish classic Jaguar design, and you've got yourself one nice and racy rid, without a doubt.
I did some interior work on the headliner and back seat which were both in poor shape when I bought the car. The material I used was an antique handmade quilt made from vintage Levis, Wrangle, Lee selvedge denim remnants. I was going do the entire interior eventually, but I am unable to do so now.The front seats are leather, but those too had seen better days, so they have decent store bought covers at the time.
The car has a serious stereo system that I also installed. Sony stereo with CD player and ports for input ( xm radio, cell phone, ipod, etc, ). Amplifier and Bass Speaker cabinet that fits nicely in the trunk, with plenty of room to spare.Sounds great !!
The tires are near new with zero tread loss.
Sunroof works great. All power windows work. They go up and down slowly after the car hasnt been driven for awhile, but after being used a short bit they pick up speed and normalize.
There is some surface rust in a few areas of the exterior, but minor at this point. There is however a decent sized hole on the driver side floor that has been patched with heavy gage sheet metal and spray foam. A hasty fix in a pinch, but functional and keeps out any elements. It's a problem that should certainly be addressed, but not a major one it seems at the time ( no tube-frame damage ).
This is one of the Chevy / Jaguar conversions that used to be done some time ago.
The previous owner spent a pile of cash and way too much time getting this car where it is at this point, so any of the typical problems associated with this conversion have already been addressed before I purchased it. I just had a new master cylinder for the brakes installed this month, and replaced all of the power window switches. Of cours, the relentless LUCAS electrical system is present, and occasionally decides to do strange things, but everything works and seems to be functioning correctly. The previous owner installed a heavy duty power kill switch on the floor of the drivers side interior that helps greatly to reduce any unwanted battery drain while the car is not being used. A new "Interstate" brand battery was also installed less than a month ago.
The car starts right up, drives great, and is decent on gas. I havent driven it during the winter months at all, and really havent put that many miles on the car myself. I have taken it on a few 500-1000 mile road trips, and it takes to the highway wonderfully. I would certainly consider driving the car to deliver it to the buyer, regardless of where you are in the lower 48 states. I am confident it would make the trip anyways, thats for sure.
