1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport Description

With a little sadness, our family has decided to sell our classic Jeep Cherokee which has been in our family for close to 10 years. The Jeep went to college with one son and graduate school with another son. In between stints at college and graduate school, the Jeep was garaged in East Hampton, NY.

Every time the Jeep is in the shop, the mechanics say, “This Jeep is the best – never sell it – it will run forever”.

All our repairs to date have been fairly routine. This year four brand new tires and one minor ignition problem which we solved for $450. Prior to that, the only real expense was a new radiator which ran about $600.

The best things about our Jeep: CLASSIC square body (the best); 4-wheel drive is awesome sauce in beach and snow; metallic blue/green paint is original and the best color ever; radio and cassette work just fine; interior clean with no rips or stains; pristine original owner’s manual; and plastic liner for rear cargo area.

Now for the list of things wrong with a Jeep built in 1998. Air conditioning does not work, the roof liner sags so if you are tall it hits your head (if you're short, no problem), electrical windows all work however, they go down a little slow if you push them ALL down at the same time; pair of pliers needed to open the trunk (but it definitely opens), the plastic grill under the wipers is broken with parts missing, the shift indicator piece of plastic is missing so you have to guess a little when you place in "Drive", etc.
