THE JEEP CHEROKEE WAS LAST MADE IN1983AND THIS ONE WAS THETOP OF LINE PACKAGE "LAREDO". TRULY A LUXURY VEHICLE FOR JEEP ALONG WITH THE WAGONER.
THIS IS NOT A SHOW CAR BUT A SOLID AND REMARKABLY WELL PRESERVED EXAMPLE OF THISMODEL. IT IS A DAILY DRIVER AS IT STANDS TODAY AND A FUN ONE!

HERE IS THE STORY OF THIS JEEP.
I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND BOUGHT THIS JEEP IN 1990 WITH 42k MILES OR SO. IT HAD BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OFF BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND WAS EVEN Z-BARED BY THE SELLING DEALER. FOR THOSE OF YOU TOO YOUNG TOKNOW WHAT THAT IS, IT IS A PROCESS THAT INJECT A TAR LIKELIQUID IN MOST CAVITIES OF THE CARS BODY AND PREVENTED RUST TO THE METAL AND PROVIDEA QUIETER RIDEWHILE ADDING SERIOUS PROFITS TO THE DEALER'S BOTTOM LINE.
I COMMUTED TO WORK WITH IT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND IN 1993 DECIDED IT WOULD BE SMART TO CONVERT THIS ENGINE TO PROPANE GAZ ONLY (WRONG, I WAS). THIS WAS AROUND 80k MILES OR SO.
SINCE I LOST SO MUCH POWER WITH THE PROPANE, I DECIDED TO SWAP THE ENGINE FOR A BORED OUT 360 V8 WITH HIGHER COMPRESSION. THIS WAS NOW 1994 AND THE JEEP HAD 96K MILES. IT HELPED SOMEBUT IT SEEMED THAT THE PRICE OF PROPANE KEPT INCREASING. SO,THE JEEP DID NOT GET USED AS MUCHSOON AFTER THE ENGINE EXCHANGE.
IT RAN WITH PROPANE UNTIL 2009 WHEN I HAD ITRECONVERTED BACK TO GASOLINE AT ABOUT 125K MILES. AT THAT TIME, I HAD A 4 BARREL ELDEBROCK CARBURETOR PUT ON, ALONG WITH A HIGH END ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP. IT HAS A STRAIGHT PIPE FROM THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO THE BACK AND IT RUMBLES NICELY BUT LOUDLY.
THIS TRUCK REALLY MOVES AND IS VERY DRIVEABLE AND RELIABLE!
UNFORTUNATELY WITHIN A COUPLE OF YEARS OF MY HIGH PERFORMANCE RECONVERSION, THE COUNTY WHERE I LIVE DECIDED TO REINSTATE SMOG TEST AND MY JEEP NO LONGER PASS THE TEST.
PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MINDTHAT IF YOU HAVE A SMOG TEST IN YOUR STATE THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS AND YOU ARE BUYING THIS VEHICLE AS IS, WHERE IS WITH NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
I USED THE JEEP VERY LITTLE FOR MANY YEARS. FOR EXAMPLE I BOUGHT THE BRIDGESTONE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE TODAY IN 2005 AND THE JEEP HAD 120K MILES. IN THE LAST 11 YEARS I PUT ON ABOUT 1OK MILES!
IN THE LAST 10 YEARS, I HAVE REPLACED THE RADIATOR FOR EXAMPLE ALONG WITH ALL THE ELECTRIC MOTOR FOR THE WINDOWS, TAILGATE WINDOWS AND POWER DOOR LOCK. THE BRAKES WERE REDONE ETC....
SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY, MANY YEARS AGOI PUT IN THE VERY EXPENSIVE "RECARO" ADJUSTABLE FRONT SEATS WHICH ARE GREAT, (I NO LONGER HAVE THE ORIGINAL SEATS).
SOME YEARS AGO I HAD A CD PLAYER INSTALLED WITH NEW SPEAKERS IN THE DOOR AND NEW BOX SPEAKER HANGING ON THE BACK SIDE.
LAST YEAR IN 2015, I HAD THE AUTO TRANSMISSION REBUILT AND ALL THE SEALS WERE REPLACED. THE FRONT AND REAR DIFFERENTIAL WERE SERVICED. THE JEEP HAD ONLY 130,687 MILES.
THIS JEEP DOES NOT LEAK OIL.....
THIS YEAR I HAD A NEW HEAD LINERPUT IN AND THE JEEP SHOWS SUPERBLY ON THE INSIDE WITH ORIGINAL CARPET ALONG WITH AN AFTER MARKET HUGE GLOVE BOX. NOTE THAT THE DRIVER SIDE RECARO SEAT SHOWING A BIT MORE WEAR THAN THE PASSENGER ONE.
THE AC WAS LAST RECHARGED IN 2011 AND IS NO LONGER COLD BUT EVERYTHING IS THERE TO FUNCTION EXCEPT THAT IT PROBABLY HAS A SMALL LEAK.
I HAD THE CAR REPAINTED A FEW YEARS AGO AND WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE RESULTS. I COULD NOT LOOK AT IT FOR A LONG TIME!THE SHOP WENT OUT OF BUSINESS THE DAY AFTER I PICKED UP THE JEEP!
LOOKING AT THEJEEP FROM AFEW FEET AWAY, THE CAR LOOKS GREAT BUT UP CLOSE NOT SOGOOD WITH SOME ORANGE PEEL AND SOME MARKS ETC... THE WORSE IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR FENDER EXTENSION WITH THE BONDO FILLER SHOWING CRACKING.THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO WELD A NEW METALEXTENSION BUT DID NOT. THIS ISA COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE CHEROKEE. ONLY ONE SIDE IS BAD AND THERE IS MINOR BUBBLING ON THE UPPER SIDE EXTENSION EDGEBUT NO CRACK.
THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT EDGE OF THE BUMPER IS TWEAKED A BIT AND THE BLACK PLASTIC EDGE IS ALSO BENT .
I HAD THE FRONT BRUSH GUARD (JEEP ACCESSORIES) AND THE REAR SPARE TIRE AND JERRY CAN CARRIER POWDER COATED BLACK AT THAT TIME AND THEY LOOK GREAT.
I HAD ALL THE RUBBER GASKETS REPLACED AND THE BODY SHOP DID A LOUSY JOB ON THAT INSTALLATIONTOO WITH SOME ILL FITTING BUTSTILL BETTER THAN THE OLD ONES.
I SHOWED MANY PICTURES OF THE CAR AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO PROVIDE MORE SPECIFIC ONE IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED.
THINGS THAT DO NOT WORK:
ALL THE AFTERMARKET LIGHTS WERE DISCONNECTED WHILE BEING PAINTED AND NEVER REWIRED. OTHER ITEMS: THE AC, CRUISE CONTROL, REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER (THE WINDOW WORKS FINE) AND WINDSHIELD WASHER ONLY DO NOT OPERATE (THE WIPERS ARE FINE). THE DRIVER SIDE KEY OPENING IS WORN BUT WORKS AND THE DRIVER SIDE POWER LOCK WORKS BUT IS STICKY.
THERE ARE PROBABLY A COUPLE OF OTHER MINOR THINGS THAT I CANT THINK OFF BUT THEY WOULD BE MINOR.
THIS VEHICLE IS 33 YEARS OLD AND NOT PERFECT BUT I DO NOT THINK THAT ANYONE INTERESTED WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED AFTER SEEING IT AND DRIVING IT.
I HAVE ORIGINAL MANUAL, CHILTON BOOK, ORIGINAL BROCHURE OF THE JEEP LINE IN 1983 AND A FEW SMALL ODDS AND ENDS PARTS TO GO WITH IT. THIS INCLUDES THE ORIGINAL WHEELS (CHROME) AND HUBS. I HAVE MOST OF THE BILLS PAPER RECORDFOR THE MAJOR REPAIR.
THE JEEP IS TITLED IN NEBRASKA AND IS CLEAR IN MY NAME AND TRANSFERABLE.
