1971 Jeep DJ5 (CJ5) Description

Up for bid is this beautiful 1971 DJ jeep. Originally this jeep began its life as a Postal Jeep, over the last year it has been converted to a CJ5 clone. The only features that give it away is the fact that it's right hand drive and the unique Postal Jeep five slat grill. This thing is a nut and bolt frame off amateur restoration, that has less than 400 miles since restoration.
The power plant is a bone stock 258 AMC inline six with 142,000 miles on it. Engine was completely resealed, and a major tuneup was done. Water pump, oil pump, and carburetor where all replaced. The transmission is a stock Borg Warner 3 speed Automatic. The transmission was also resealed and a new speedometer gear was installed. The rear end is a Dana 44 with stock gears. Running stock drum brakes all around. The entire brake system was replaced with new parts, new master, soft line, hard lines, shoes, drums, hardware, etc. Suspension was also completely gone though, and all parts where replaced, bushings, tie rods, shocks, etc. Most of the suspension is stock with the exception of longer shackles to achieve a mild lift. The Frame was sand blasted, primed, and two coats of semi gloss black was shot to finish it off. One of the unique features of a DJ frame is that it is completely boxed which makes them much stronger than your typical 'C' channeled CJ stock frames. It sits on 33in mud tires and 15in aluminum Pro-Comp rims. This thing runs and handles like a dream even at high speeds.
The body itself is originally a DJ tub that has been heavily modified over the last year. The roof was carefully removed after the tub was reinforced, and a 1"X 1" square tubing was used to fabricate a top lip radius around the tub and top of tail gate. Side door panel skins where fabricated with much detail to produce a CJ5 door channel, and finally grafted on the tub. This tub accepts original CJ5 soft doors, one could even install CJ5 hard doors as well with no modifications. Next The windshield frame was also carefully removed, reinforced, and finally shaped to mock a CJ windshield frame. All this work made it possible for the stock windshield frame to accept CJ windshield frame hinges (stainless), and yes its a fully working fold down windshield with a fully operating windshield wiper system. The front fenders where shaped and shaved for a smooth CJ look eliminating the stock postal jeep front turn signals. New aftermarket 1950's jeep turn signals were grafted on the stock DJ grill giving it a smooth look. The front end was finished off by modifying and shaping the stock DJ bumper. In the rear, stock DJ tail light housings were relocated and grafted to the tub, also grafting in a stainless steal gas filler housing and cap. Next a simple spare tire carrier was fabricated and mounted to the frame using a very high quality commercial bearing system, this makes it possible to carry a matching 33in spare without damaging the tub.
Many hours were spent blocking the body for a perfect smooth surface, once done a PPG mix of Rescue Green base was shot followed by 3 layers of High Quality PPG clear for a mirror finish shine. I must say this paint is very special because its one of the few bases that has both pearl and metallic in its mixture giving it a real unique finish.
The interior is all new, sporting two low back seats up front and a fold and tumble rear seat. The dash was color matched to the seats and shot with a single stage spice paint job. The steering wheel was restored and shot with a high quality PPG epoxy high gloss black paint. The shiftier and E brake handle were also shot with the same epoxy paint. A new stock instrument cluster was installed, with two additional aftermarket gauges reading correct water temp as well as oil pressure. All knobs are high quality machined aluminum.
Electrical system is an all new "Painless Wiring" with a 18 circuit wiring system and a modern fuse box. Backing all this up is a 100 amp GM alternator. Once again every single thing on this beauty was changed down to the heater core, best converted postal jeep out there!.This vehicle has a clean title and is registered, I must end by saying this jeep is as is where is buyer is responsible for shipping. We may help with delivery depending on location.
