1998 Jeep Wrangler 4.0
1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport Description
Hi, I'm selling my 1998 Jeep Wrangler. I bought the car about 6 years ago at 128,000 miles and am currently selling it at 170,000 miles (might hit 170,500 depending on how quick it sells). It has a manual transmission and 6 cylinder engine.
Work done in the past 6 years of my ownership:- at 135,000 miles: New brake booster installed.- at 140,000 miles: New top installed. BesTop Bikini top, Windjammer, and Cargo cover. I have the metal hardware for the OEM top, but the fabric part itself was torn and thrown out.- at 145,000 miles: New 31x10.5R15 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires installed. These are the largest you can go on stock suspension, and best tread pattern in my opinion.- at 148,000 miles: New front brake pads and rotors.- at 150,000 miles: New frame installed. The frame was rusted out; rather than patching it with welded pieces, I put a junkyard frame with no rust under it. I painted it red. It needed paint to protect the new frame from rusting like the old one, and the red looks nice.- at 150,000 miles: New torque boxes installed. This is what connects the frame to the body. They were rusty, so I replaced them too.- at 150,000 miles: New exhaust cat-back system installed. DynoMax Super Turbo. The muffler was rusty, so I did this for half fun, half functional. It has a nice deep rumble without being obnoxious.- at 150,000 miles: New clutch installed. I had the transmission apart so figured why not.- at 150,000 miles: Riveted an aluminum square (roughly 5"x5") into the floor pan to patch a rusty area. The rusty part was cut off.- at 160,000 miles: New radiator, heater core, coolant hoses, and thermostat installed.
Work that needs to be done in the near future (by the new owner):- New rear pads and drums. They are completely worn down.- Oil change: It's due for one in the next few hundred miles.- Light rack: It doesn't work, I think it's cause the bulbs are rusted.- A/C is currently discharged. It worked when I emptied the refrigerant at 150,000 miles, but I never properly recharged it. I make no guarantees as to what will happen if/when you recharge it.- The heater blower motor sometimes only works on settings 2 and 4 (on a scale of 1-4). This hasn't bothered me, but if it bothers you the switch should probably be replaced.- The steering wheel is slightly crooked. Doesn't bother me, and I'm afraid the adjustment bolt might be too rusty and snap when I adjust it. So I've just left it be. Its mechanically sound and the car drives perfectly straight so again, your call if you want to look at it or not.
Modifications:- The top is not a stock top.- Head unit is aftermarket. Connected to a custom made soundbar hanging from the roll cage (I made it myself with plywood. It could use some touch-ups).- Two 12" subs in the back with an amp. These are louder than you'll ever need them to be.- Fender flares extend out further than stock.- Light rack on the roof. Currently in-operational, but can be made to work with a bit of electrical fiddling.- Will come with ORFAB TJ tube doors. These are a blast in the summer.- Will come with a TJ Mesh Bikini Top, american flag style. It's a mesh top to keep you from getting sunburnt in the summer.- Carpetting is currently removed and the floor is painted. The carpet is held in by velcro - it's included, and if you want, I'll help you put it in as part of the purchase.- Back seat is currently removed but included. I'll help install that too if desired, but it doesn't fit with the subs, so you'll have to choose which you want installed.
Other Notes:I will not ship this vehicle. I want the buyer to be fully aware of what the Jeep is like, in person, before the sale concludes. All sales final and without warranty. It's an old Jeep but still has some life left and runs absolutely fine for my day to day commute. I'm selling it cause I just got a new job and a new car. My commute will be increasing tenfold, so the Jeep doesn't make much sense for me anymore. I hope someone else will enjoy and love it as I have.
Well, that should be it. Thanks for reading my sale post! If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Update: I noticed on the vehicle history report there's an accident. When I bought this car, the owner looked me in the eye and said it hadn't been in any accidents. I believed him, and I now see that was a mistake. Anyway, this is the first I'm seeing of an accident so I don't have any information I can share with you on that. When I bought the car it showed no signs of any damage. Even if there were any underlying issues that were undetectable to the driver, they would have been corrected with the frame swap at 150,000 miles, which basically turned into an entire rebuild of the car.
