1978 Jeep CJ CJ 5 Description
Up for sale is a 1978 CJ5 with a V-8 engine. Started a restoration project last year taking it down to the frame and starting from there. To clarify I was working with an authorized Jeep mechanic at his place and we spent many days working on the CJ. The frame was cleaned, replacement parts welded, and coated with a rust preventative.
The Jeep was inspected last year and is current until the end of July. We drove it last summer and this year with the doors off and it was a blast.
The V8 I believe is the original 304. Stock trans, axles. We started off by making sure the engine and trans were solid before stripping it down. No sense in starting a project like this and having to pull the motor or trans later.
We are using the existing wiring harness and have the headlights, high beam switch, wipers, voltage and fuel gauges working. The wiring to the exterior signals is finished and working but are intermittent on the speedometer. I have ordered a LED bulb holder to replace the older style bulbs in the speedo but have yet to confirm they will fit. The fan has not been hooked up for the heater at this time.
New brake & fuel lines, head covers, speedometer, woods drive shafts, steering shaft, brake calipers, brake pads, front springs, frame mounts, headlights, aluminum radiator, fan, alternator, gas filler, front and rear bumpers, Corbeau seats & mounts, seat belts, Rally Top Hardtop and doors, Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ 35's, wheels and more.
It has power steering with disc brakes up front and drum brakes in the back.
A more than $14k invested in this project. Priced to sell. It is pretty much down to some interior wiring. Runs and drives well. The Black Beast is a real head turner.
Most of the heavy lifting on this resto is done. The plan was to finish the wiring, pull the seats, rhino coat the inside of the tub and party on.
I have the opportunity to start another project earlier than expected so I thought I would put this for sale and see who is interested.
I will work with any shipping company you arrange for the transfer of the vehicle
We have most of the parts receipts and with additional labor $ (not including my time) I figure we have 13-14k invested.
The cons are the few wiring finishes and an alignment. When the alignment is done the steering stop should be adjusted. I ordered a new heater core but the current one looks fine but the
I am using this as my daily driver to work and when we hike on the the local trails.
