Jeep Cherokee- 2000 XJ
2000 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L Sport Description
2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ with issues. I use it as a backup car for which it is useful around NYC. I don't have the time to keep up with the issues on this car, which can pretty easily and inexpensively be repaired by a DIY type. In the spirit of full disclosure, here are ALL the issues I that i know about. -There are some body issues you can see in the photos. I replaced the passenger side quarter panel pretty easily (although not 100% effectively as you can see from the photos) with a junk yard panel that I purchased for about $25. -One of the studs for lug nuts on the drivers side wheel is missing. I have the lug nuts, but haven't gotten around to fixing it. -The radio illumination flickers in and out inexplicably. -It recently began overheating only while in traffic on the hottest days. My gut tells me its something with the fan because when moving, the temperature is fine. The heat in the vehicle works also. -It has a small steering fluid leak when turning hard against the stop. I have put maybe 1 quart of fluid in it over the past two years. Seems ok. - Sometimes the engine flutters a bit and the check engine light comes on. It doesn't happen often never leaves me stranded, but it does seem to happen sometimes when starting a hot engine. For those that know these vehicle, this is a pretty common issue. It doesn't bother me too much. - The air conditioner is not cold. I put fluid in it and it worked for about 1 day. That was last summer. Haven't tried to fix it lately. -The passenger side power window only works from the drivers side controls. When I got the car, the engine was not running smoothly. I replace the cam and crank sensor which made it very useable. Since I have had it, three years or so, I have replaced the battery, the alternator, the front drive shaft (to fix a wobble) the pistons for the back lift gate. I am still driving it regularly with no major inconveniences.
