1983 Jeep Cherokee Laredo Description

This is the last year AMC made the two-door Wide Track and FSJ Cherokee. I am the 2nd owner, purchased in 2000, and used as a second vehicle since. I inherited two more old vehicles and need to sell this to someone who can give it the TLC it deserves as I have too much on my plate. As this was my project car, there are many changes I made over the years from stock form, good and bad, which are partially listed below.

Overall: It runs great, but since converting back to a manual fuel pump, I have been getting some vapor lock on hot days and it runs a little hot. The professionally-rebuilt transmission shifts flawlessly and the four-wheel drive works. The A/C is not hooked-up, but all the parts are included. It does need body work for some rust areas around the rear lower panels, rear flares and a few other small holes, but the floorboards are solid. I havea fewother parts not seen in the photos, likean excellent rear seat and many other partsavailable. I also have the original build-sheet and owner's manuals, most of the receipts and all the specs from the last engine rebuild. Almost everything works except the A/C, radio, fog lights, and the trailer wiring.

Engine: Too much to list, but was rebuilt in 2000 and not driven much since. Upgrades from stock include an MSD ignition with Pro-billet distributer, Edelbrock Performer manifold and 1406 carb, Summit RV cam, true-roller timing chain, high-flow water pump, modified oil ports, Gibson stainless exhaust, and a speed-shop machined the heads and crank so it can run on modern fuel.

Drive Train: Recently rebuilt transmission and transfer case. Standard AMC-20 rear, Warn manual-locking hubs, dual-diaphragm brake booster. Have rear drive shaft parts and an uninstalled air-shock kit for towing available, but not included. Newish 32" Yokohama Geolander tires with tire chains included and Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks. What is needed is a mild lift for these tires to clear better over rough terrain.

Exterior: Warn winch bumper, earlier 3-piece chrome rear bumper, '67 front clip and "Gladiator" or "Rhino Chaser" grill, aftermarket roof rack, spotlight and some other retro parts are included along with a trailer receiver hitch and period-correct Western "turbine" aluminum wheels.

Interior: Camel color (original) with tan carpet and trim that also replaces the sagging headliner. Coveted "Super Wagoneer" accessories include the rearview mirror, sun visors, modified rare center console with armrest and the glove box door with emblem. Grant GT steering wheel, Mitsubishi Starion Turbo front seats, Mercedes arm rests, nice original rear seat, Bronco spare tire holder, Sony speakers (radio needed, but dash cut for modern unit), uncracked original dash pad and the common in-dashvolt meter conversion.
