1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport Sport Utility 2-Door Description
Well over $15,000 of parts alone have been put into this, never mind labor, and it just passed state safety plus emission inspections, so no check engine light issues here. Goes down the highway at 75+ mph with no issues.
Frame is solid, as it has been plated with Safe-T-Cap rear trailing arm mount kits, and body mounts have already been reinforced too. The 6 center cross-member bolts have been taken out and never-seize applied, so those are not rusted in place, thus no worry about those snapping or stripping. As a matter of fact, every bolt that I have touched has been never-seized or at least greased.
Great oil pressure on this good running and low mileage(miles will go up from further use) 4.0L which is running synthetic oil. It is held up bya +1" Brown Dog engine mount kit. It breaths from aC.A.R.B. legal and actualcold air intake with a new air filter that ducts into the cowl where a pre-filter has been added there as well. Air then goes through anupgraded 2002 intake manifold with anA.R.B. approvedthrottle body spacer, then exhausts into a smog legal stainless steel header, followed by a mandrel bent cat-back system with a newO2 sensor. Fire power goes through the new cap & rotor, new wires, and E3 plugs. This is all kept cool by hood louvers and an electric pusher fan when/if needed, which also free up horsepower and allow you to turn the fan off for deep water crossings.
The transmission was upgraded to a NV3550 5-speed Manual transmission that had a heavy duty clutch installed as well as aB&M short throw shifter, followed by a NV241OR "Rock Trac"Rubicon transfer case with ashifter relocation bracket, exited by adouble cardan CV style drive shaft attached to a1310 adapter flange at the rear. A rebuild was done to the front propeller shaft to make that tight again as well.
Behind that is a Ford 8.8 rear axle with4.56 gears and aDetroit locker with aC-clip elimination kit, all protected by an extreme thickness differential cover. It is held in place by 2" DOM fully adjustable upper control arm's with heim joints and new adjustable lower curved control arms with rubber bushings.
The front is a high pinion Dana 30 axle with4.56 gears and aLock-Right locker, outer axle seals, plus it too has adjustablelower curved control arms. Extra shafts are availabletoo, since I had them just in case, but never needed them.
These axles sit on 4 new 33x12.5 Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tires wearing new 15" black aluminum rims with a matching(tire and wheel)spare and all new lug nuts. These track true with a recent 4-wheel alignment.
Steering is handled by a PSC steering box protected by aRusty's steering box skid, and moves aRusty's tie-rod & drag link. New lower ball joints were installed to keep things turning smooth,as well as a new tie-rod end,a new passenger's side axle u-joint, and a new Napa driver's side unit hub bearing assembly, plus all 6 of the unit hub bearing bolts replaced with brand new Mopar ones while in there too.
Lift is a complete Rusty's 3" advanced lift kit with brand newshocks, and the rear upper spring perches were just relocated with theRusty's relocation kit to fix the spring curve. The lift kit also included stainless steel braided brake lines to refresh the old rubber units. And articulation was upgraded by a pair ofTeraFlex sway-bardisconnects.
For protection there are rockers guards, full corner guards,Rusty's fuel tank skid, oil pan skid, and a radiator guard to wrap things up.Rear bumper support tie-in brackets were also welded in to brace the 2"frame mounted receiver hitch, though I have never towed anything.
For the electrics, an Optima Red Top battery starts this TJ and has an accessoryPainless fuse block to handle add-ons like the fan, etc.KC DOT legal head lamps light the way and the factoryturn signals were cut into grill for the flat fender advantages. The blower fan resistor was replaced and heavy duty connector was rewired in to take the place of the problematic original unit.
Exterior wise, mirrors relocation brackets allow you to be legal with or without doors and those half doors wear brand new aftermarket upper door skins. A magnetic mount with a quick disconnect K40 CB antenna sits on the louvered hood, which is removable to allow car washes and keeping your antenna yours easily. And a Trasharoo supplies more cargo room or helps you keep our trails clean. A farm jack is mounted on the hood for quick and easy access for those times that you might actually need it. Larger fender flares(I hate mud) with the rocker extensions, keep the sides clean and allows tire coverage so you can pass DOT/state inspection laws if your state has them(NH does and is a stickler about tire coverage).
The interior has some safe storage to secure things when you have the top down and/or no doors on, such as a Tuffy steel security glove box, and aBestop under seat security box, both with spare keys. TheCB windshield bracket keeps that up out of the way to allow more room in the otherwise tight quarters, which is also why the rear seat has been removed and sold. And an aftermarketCD player replaces the old tape deck. All this is kept dry with a good OE factory soft top with tinted windows, or you can let the air in and keep a lot of the sun out with a Spiderwebshade top as pictured.
Lastly, it has new wiper blades too ;)
