Thanks to 4-channel ABS with an Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) system and 4-wheel electronic traction control, the mini Land Rover can battle through some of the worst conditions that Mother Nature can serve up. In fact, going up a muddy hill at Eastnor Castle means that all you need to do is be patient. Keep your foot on the throttle and wait for the car to find any small amount of traction that exists and eventually it will carry you to the top.
Keeping all four wheels in contact with the ground are independent MacPherson struts at each corner, with additional lower control arms up front and a trailing link and two lateral links at the rear. Generous amounts of wheel travel, 7 in. at the front and 8 in. at the rear, and 30-degree-plus approach and departure angles allow the Freelander to negotiate rough grounds.
