1961 Land Rover Series II Fully Restored Rare Left hand drive LHD
1961 Land Rover Other 88 Description
You are looking at a rare 1961 Series II Land Rover restored to like new condition this year. Original pastel green single stage urethane paint work and gray leather upholstery. There are a few updates not original. I converted from positive to negative ground. Installed modern three point seat belts ( no seatbelt on the center seat). Replaced the old leaf springs with Rocky Mountain parabolic springs. Replaced door tops with Rocky Mountain all aluminum tops. The rest is as original. This was a body off restoration. The rear crossmember was replaced. The rest of the chassis was supriseingly rust free. Rebuilt front axel with all new swivel balls, bearings. New original cloth covered wiring harness custom ordered from England. Rebuilt generator and starter. This Rover is EMP proof for anyone that cares. Rebuilt solex carburetor. This Rover has never seen ethanol fuel. New correct fuel tank. Rebuilt correct fuel sender. I did not overhaul the engine or gearbox. The engine runs perfect with very good compression. Every acsessory was replaced or rebuilt. I did add the spin on oil filter (I have the original oil filter if you want it). All new brakes running Dot 5 silicone brake fluid. I have driven this Rover all summer and it as not left me stranded once. It drives well for a series. Great round town off freeway truck. Max speed is around 60MPH. It is titled in South Carolina as a 1962 Land Rover even though it is a 61. Back in the 60s they titled vehicles when they sold not by manufacturers date. This is a late series II not IIa. There are some subtle differences. LandRover made the SII from 1958-1961. Left hand drive SIIs are quite rare.
