1997 Land Rover DIscovery XD (not running)
1997 Land Rover Discovery Description
This 1997 Land Rover Discovery is one of only 250 made at the Land Rover Custom Shop in England. This model was created to honor the 1996 Disco that participated in the Camel Trophy Endurance run. The "AA Yellow" color is eye-catching and even in the condition it is, it never fails to get positive attention wherever it goes (in town or out on the trail).
The vehicle is not running because of a fault in the alarm system that cannot be addressed unless it is transported to a Rover dealer or a specialty Rover shop or someone that has a Rover Scan Tool. The vehicle, when connected to a battery, will sound the alarm and the alarm cannot be shut off by the key or remote. It also cannot be started in this condition. I was advised it probably just takes a reset.
The body shows a number of battle scars with rocks and trees but we never bothered to fix it, since it just adds character. There is considerable rust on the roof rack, ladder and brush bar, but the non aluminum sections of the coachwork is almost completely rust free. Obviously there is no rust on the Aluminum body panels. Remarkably the "s arch" panels inside the rear doors are rust free. The frame is almost completely clean of rust. The interior is in fair shape for the age of the vehicle. The original cassette radio is in perfect condition and operates on the weather channel band in addition to the AM/FM bands. The radio code IS included on the original card.Mechanically, the drive train operates flawlessly. The engine is strong and the rest of the gear (transfer case, transmission, axles etc) is super.
The XD package included extra undercarriage armor, an SD (Safety Devices) full length roof rack, 5 top mounted spotlights (four forward and one rear facing), Twin Brush bar mounted fog lights, rear door mounted roof ladder and this one came with a pair of limb-lifters already installed.
As for the tires: the 4 on the ground are a set of almost brand new Dick Cepek Mud Country tires mounted on Range Rover wheels. These tires are fantastic and since we got them we have never been stuck in mud or snow. The grip in rain or on ice is remarkable since the tread blocks are siped.
As a bonus, you will also get 5 BF Goodrich Mud Country tires (in various degrees of wear) mounted on the original XD black rims. When traveling trails, it is a great idea to carry backups.
All four electric window regulators are brand new and work flawlessly.
If running, this vehicle would sell for at least twice the asking price here. Since the machine cannot be started, you will need a flatbed to recover it and the spare wheels. I will be happy to provide additional information if requested. This is a great deal since even if you part this out (please don't) you will make more in parts than you have in the cost of this great old road warrior.
The original owner's manual is included along with some other LR literature.
