2004 Land Rover Discovery SE - Project or Parts Vehicle + Extras - No Reserve
2004 Land Rover Discovery Description
2004 Land Rover Discovery SE
Vehicle is not running, The oil pump went out on it and unfortunately the bearings spun on the engine before it was shut down. This happened in the spring of 2011 and the vehicle has been sitting waiting for repair since. I had a mechanic inspect the engine, he found that all cylinders had good compression, but the rod bearings were spun requiring a rebuild. Also the front end cover is damaged due to the oil pump, so a new front end cover and oil pump would also be required. The engine would still turn over and fire prior to the partial dissambly to have things checked out. I have all the parts bagged and tagged from the mechanic for anything that was removed or disassembled. My intent was to replace the engine, not rebuild it, however I've just not found the time, money, or motivation to do so and now it's time for me to move on let somebody else have the chance.
Some background on the truck... I purchased the truck in October 2007, I was living in Flagstaff, Arizona and bought the Rover out of Phoenix. I then drove it in Flagstaff over the next 3 years before moving back to the Detroit, Michigan suburbs. The oil pump went out the following March (of 2011) while I was on a trip back to Arizona. I towed it back to Detroit and other than getting checked out by a mechanic it has sat relatively unchanged since then.
Before the oil pump went out I had plans of putting on heavy duty springs, front and rear steel bumpers, and having spare sets of all terrain and mud terrain tires. I did manage to pick up a set of 5 factory take off wheels from an earlier model Land Rover Discovery in 16" and an set of 5 factory take off wheels from a Range Rover Sport in 19" in preparation for these mods. (I was thinking to get them powder coated in black) They are both the correct bolt pattern and backspacing to work on the 2004 Discovery, and the two sets of wheels cost me around two thousand dollars all told with purchase price and shipping. They are all good damage free wheels, and are included with truck in this auction. Also included are two sets of center caps to fit those wheels and an extra set of lug nuts. The truck has upgraded brakes from EBC, with dimpled rotors and the "green" no squeal pads. There is also a set of the "euro" headlight and taillight guards included. I removed them simply to prevent them from damage during towing and storage. I have brand new O2 sensors (I was planning on putting on an upgraded exhaust at some point) a bunch of bulbs, new rear wiper, oil filter, and three Thule crossbars mounted on the roof. The factory wheels on the truck also have a nearly brand new set of Falken tires, they were put on just a couple months before the engine trouble. I have kept them inflated and have regularly moved the truck to prevent any flat spots or damage to these tires.
The body, frame, and interior are in really good shape. Really rust free all over, it was quite the pampered vehicle prior to breaking down. It shows a little wear, but nothing more than you would expect out of a 7 year old vehicle with 90,000 miles. The exception being that the front bumper has two cracks, but I was planning on replacing that with an ARB bumper. All the windows and both sunroofs work as they should. All regular servicing was done at Land Rover dealerships (I have records of this) and the truck was well maintained. I replaced two of the wheel hub assemblies wile owning the truck. And prior to the engine failure there were no warning lights on, even now the only ones that comes up is "check engine" as you can imagine.
Anyway, look at the pictures and feel free to ask any questions that you may have, I will answer them in a timely manner and can provide more pictures and/or video if requested. The truck is available to view in Harrison Twp, Michigan.
I require a deposit of $500 within 48 hours of auction end and full payment is required within 7 days of auction end. I would prefer the vehicle be picked up at this time as well. If you cannot meet these guidelines please do not bid. I may be willing to work with you on pickup options and/or timeframe... But contact me to work out details BEFORE bidding. I also may be able to tow/deliver the rover within a reasonable distance for a compensation of fuel and time, but again contact me to work out details BEFORE bidding if that is something that you would require. The driveshaft is currently removed (but is included with the truck) to allow use of a tow dolly which is much more convenient than having to use a flatbed truck or trailer.
The vehicle is sold AS IS with no warranty expressed or implied. Furthermore it is not currently running.
Thanks for viewing my listing and good luck bidding!
