Up for auction today is a 1998 Lexus LS400 Sedan. Thank you for checking out my auction - please take the time to read the full description below and carefully examine the high resolution pictures. I try to describe the positives & negatives of this vehicle accurately in this description. In my opinion, the LS400 is one of the nicest full size luxury flagship sedans made. With a little love, this one can live to its full potential again.
Like most Lexus LS400s, this vehicle is loaded with options like power heated leather seats, power everything, power moonroof, cruise control and much more. The engine and transmission are in good shape. The car starts right up and runs smoothly. The transmission shifts good and goes through all the gears. The brakes stop the sedan straight and well, but with a noticeable pulsation from higher speeds. The "brake wear" indicator light is on, so I would expect to service the brake pads/rotors soon after your purchase. This sedan is equipped with factory cruise control and it works like it should. The suspension seems to overall be in good shape with the exception of the left front, there are some noticeable creaks and clunks from that area. When I purchased the vehicle, the power steering was not operational -- I added some fluid and it is working again, however I would suspect there is a leak...the added steering fluid did not gush out right after I added it and I drove it around for several miles but it did not become empty accidentally. The exhaust is quiet and sounds like it should. I did not notice any leaks on the ground where this LS400 was sitting, but I just added the power steering fluid shortly before writing this description so it is likely that there may be a leak from that system. There is a noticeable vibration above 55 MPH - like an out of balance tire/wheel. Three of the tires are Goodyear, the left rear tire is mismatched brand. Although all the tires have tread, they are a bit weather checked. Aside from the break wear warning, there has been no other warning lights on while I've had the car. The Lexus appears to lose battery charge after several days, this might be a weak battery or a small parasitic drain but it starts the next day after being driven. This car is 100% drivable despite the damage but keep in mind I've only driven it about 5-10 miles since purchase, I would personally think twice before setting off across the country in it but you should be able to make it home if you're not too far away -- in the end that's your call.
The interior of this car is actually pretty nice. The seats are black leather and are in good condition, very comfortable. The power adjustments are all functioning. The carpet is also in nice condition. There is wood grain throughout and it is in nice shape. The car has not been detailed so you can expect a little clean up if you desire. The climate control works on this LS400 works like it should. The heat and A/C work great. The radio is functioning and all the LCDs on the radio appear to be working (rare) but the backlight is not. I noticed that at times the speedometer was not functioning, not sure why. The wipers only work on high setting and do not "find home" when you turn them off. The horn is not operational as well. All of the power windows and locks work like they should.
The exterior needs some attention. I've taken several pictures below, I will let them do most describing. One thing worth noting is the exterior driver's door handle is broken but is still functional using what part of it did not break (you can get into the car from the outside). The Lexus is repairable but note that there are imperfections in many places. I could be a great fix-as-you-drive project for the right person. You could ignore the cosmetic imperfections if that's your style, too..the interior is nice!. There's also a ton of money here in resellable parts if that's your thing. Overall, this is a great opportunity to get a repairable LS400 at a great price. If you have any questions don't hesitate to call or email and I will try to figure them out ASAP. I purchased this vehicle as a repossession from a financial institution, I've driven it for about 5-10 miles and use that experience to represent the vehicle to you on eBay. I may have missed some minor things. Please remember that you are buying a used vehicle and that a certain amount of wear/use/flaws are to be expected on any used vehicle -- including this one. The vehicle is for sale locally as well so auction can end at any time. Bid with confidence as I have represented the vehicle well. There will be a $100 documentation fee added on to each vehicle sold (including sales to other dealers). A $500 deposit is required within 24 hours of the auction ending via paypal. The remaining balance will need to be paid within 7 days of the end of the auction by Cash or Cashier's Check. If you need financing, please have that arranged BEFORE the auction ends.
Please only bid if you are 100% serious about buying this vehicle. This means you have a plan for shipping or picking up the vehicle and have the financial ability to pay for it. Due to high amounts of non-paying bidders recently, you must have a PayPal account associated with your eBay Account to bid on my auctions. Please make sure you have this, especially if you plan on waiting until the last hours to place a bid because it can take a while to set this up. We are a licensed used vehicle dealer and must collect sales tax/title/plate fees so please contact me prior to the auction ending if you want to know what fees you will have to pay on top of the purchase price. Michigan residents will pay 6% sales tax, $15 title fee, and whatever your plate ends up being. For out of state buyers, each state is a different tax/title scenario. If this is a concern, please contact me before the auction ends and I will tell you exactly how much (if any) tax will be for your state. For out of state buyers, any taxes that are paid to me you will receive a credit in your home state (you will not be double-taxed). All out of state buyers will be required to purchase a 15-day temporary tag/registration for $10.00 without regard to how you are getting the car to your home state (shipping it or driving it) and you will need to send me a copy of proof of insurance for any vehicle you own. This is the State of Michigan's rule, not mine...but from browsing eBay $10 is probably the cheapest temp-tag of any state and you will be able to drive your car immediately and legally.
In Michigan, all cars sold over 10 years old are marked as mileage exempt in accordance with Federal law. Basically, this means that the State stops keeping track of mileage on older cars, however Autocheck still does track the mileage and this vehicle is not known to have any mileage inaccuracies or discrepancies.
