1998 LEXUS SC400 - Beautiful Classic Low Mileage Car
Up for auction is a stunning Lexus SC400. I purchased this vehicle a year ago with 97000 miles from Arlington Audi in Virginia and it has been completely trouble free the entire time I have owned it. While I have enjoyed this car immensely, it is time for me to go back to a four door car in order to stay married. I have provided quite a few photos which I believe show the overall beautiful condition of the car. It is, without a doubt, one of the nicest SC400's on the road, with low mileage and in great condition inside and out. As with any 1998 vehicle the car is not perfect. I am not a mechanic, but I will do my very best to describe the car as accurately as possible, warts and all.
The car has an accident free history. The Carfax report shows the hstory of the car until I purchased it and it was serviced regularly only at a Lexus dealership and all work performed there as well. In addition to the Carfax report, the dealership (Lindsay Lexus of Alexandria, Va.) has detailed information for each time the car was serviced. At the 90,000 mile service the timing belt and water pump was replaced. Since I have owned the vehicle I have had it serviced regularly by my mechanic with regular oil changes and standard maintenance.
The exterior of the car looks great, with the original jet black paint still shining brightly. At some point prior to my purchasing the vehicle, someone used touch-up spray paint to cover minor scratches on a few palces. The worst of it is on the trunk lid (see photo). I believe the XM antanna slid around and scratched the lid. It has since been secured with double-sided tape. I don't know if this can be buffed out but I do think it needs attention in order to look as good as the rest of the car. There is also a small dent on the drivers side rear panel. It is an indentation the size of a quarter with no paint loss. I believe it can be easily repaired with paintless dent removal (probable cost of leas than $100). Also, there are occasional surface scratches from general wear on the bumpers and a few places on various parts of the car. These are quite minor and do not detract from the overall appearance of the car. The windows have been professionally tinted and I replaced the trunk struts so the trunk lid stays up when you raise it. The wheels have been replaced ( original wheels were 16") with 18" wheels and Continental tires. The tires have about 12,000 miles on them and are still in good condition with plenty of wear left. Needless to say, it is a pleasure taking corners in this car.
The interior of the car is dark gray and it is in very good condition. The one exception is the drivers seat that shows wear, mostly on the back of the seat where there is some wear thru (see photos). Otherwise there are a few spots that show general wear on other parts of the leather interior, but the dash, the doors, the console, etc are all in good shape. The dome light has 2 bulbs - left side is not working (I think it just needs a bulb). All electronics work as they should. The stereo has been replaced with a high-grade system that has been professionally installed - an up-to-date Kenwood Excelon unit with AM/FM/XM/CD and Garmin GPS.
Mechanically, the car runs great. The four-liter V8 engine puts out 290 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. it can move like a bat out of hell. It has excellent acceleration and runs smoothly. The motor in these cars are known to be practically "bulletproof" and with less than 113,000 miles, this car is hardly broken in. They are often offered for sale with 250,000+ miles. My mechanic has told me the car is in great condition but that it would benefit greatly from new struts. I believe it still has the original struts and it is time for them to be replaced.
This car is a true classic that will never go out of style. In 1998 there were less than 1200 total of these cars manufactured with a purchase price around $55,000. I get compliments on this car wherever I go. I have the clear title in hand. Comes with 2 keys.

Cash or Cashiers Check is required for payment. However, if paying by Cashiers check, be advised that the check must clear before you can take possession of the car.
If you are picking up the car, please be advised that it is the buyers responsibility to arrange for a temporary license tag and insurance so that you can drive the car. If you are not picking up the car it is the buyers responsibility to pay for and arrange shipping for the vehicle.
I have done my best to describe the car as accurately as possible. The car is being sold "As Is" without any kind of warranty. Please note that the mileage my vary slightly as I am still using the car to go back and forth to work.
