Touring Grandly and with the Top Down…

High style characterizes the Lexus SC 430, from its multi-piece wheels and swoop engine cover to the lush textures of its interior. Its boulevardier image is enhanced by the excellent Mark Levinson Sound System. Somehow these luxurious automobiles still have a penchant for sport driving without beating you up in the process. I cannot think of another sports/luxury car that has the ride quality of this vehicle.

Some drivers, of course, don’t want to appear glamorous; they just want the quiet satisfaction of owning a well-built luxury car with good performance and a top that goes down. Those people find much to like with one of these little gems.

The 4.3-lier Aluminum 4-cam V-8, which is electrically smooth, motors along with a satisfying subdued deep rumble and pumps out 300 hp and gobs of torque at any speed. The car moves out smartly and satisfyingly when you put your foot down. A more than respectable 5.8 second 0-60 time. To put it in perspective it’s a .2 seconds faster than a 1986 Ferrari 328GTS, considered an absolute bullet in the 80’s. It’s also as quick as my 1996 Porsche 911, another “fast” car.

This gorgeous 2003 Lexus 430 SC was delivered new through Lexus Beverly Hills in the Fall of 2002 and belonged to that person until the Fall of 2015. The current owner is remodeling his house and has too many cars and has elected to sell it.

The current owner of the car asked me to help him sell the car because he is extremely busy person.

The Lexus we are looking at here is probably one of the nicest original ones I have ever seen. I can find zero evidence of this car ever being damaged in anyway. The CarFax also supports that statement (see pictures of CarFax).

Every once in a while I will come across a car that has been kept in brand new condition like this one. It is rare and it is usually a woman that had the car. We don’t know who the first owner was, but I am assuming that is the case. Only a woman could keep a car this perfect over a twelve year period. One thing is clear, this person was a perfectionist.

Body/Paint - Absolutely flawless original paint. Clearly the car has never spent any significant time outdoors. There is no evidence anywhere that this car has ever been in even a minor fender bender. The paint color matches from panel to panel perfectly. By the way, where I take pictures in front of my house there are windows that reflect light through from the other side of the house. In the passenger side picture straight the door looks like there is some discoloration in the middle of door, but it is just the light shining through one window and landing on the door. I didn’t have time to reshoot the pictures, but I can assure you that the paint is original and perfect all the way around the car.

I have taken the time to take pictures of all the shut lines around the car, you could take a micrometer from one gap to the next and they are all exactly the same. I also took pictures down the sides of the car, front to back and back to front and the alignment of the doors are perfectly aligned and flush with all fenders.

The car has traveled but 22265 miles. It has been serviced throughout all those miles by Lexus of Beverly Hills. The car starts, stops and drives exactly like it should, the tires are all like brand new.

The Interior on these cars is simply luxurious and tastefully done. The seats are superbly comfortable and adjustable for all shapes, the sound of the Mark Levinson stereo is almost too good to be true, and the radio and temperature controls are so logical and incredibly easy to use. This is one of those cars that you can operate the systems at a glance, without a long owner’s manual session, yet it does all the things you need done. The overall interior is tastefully done, decorated with polished wood, and like the whole car, exhibits a high level of fit and finish.

Our Interior here is like it is brand new. There are no signs of wear anywhere to the seat bolsters or anywhere else. It just exudes a feeling of never being used and at 22K miles in 13 years (1700 miles per year) has had a very easy life. The interior has obviously never been subjected to the ravages of sunlight. 99% of this cars life has been spent in a garage. Almost like a barn-find, but not. Truly a time capsule of the last 13 years.

My expertise with classic & collector automobiles spans over 35 years as a collector and restorer of fine vintage automobiles. I have been involved in judging cars at Auctions, Concour Events and National Car Club Meets. I am a member in many automobile clubs here in the United States, including NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) PCA (Porsche Club of America) and the Mustang Club of America. I have affiliations with almost all of the major car clubs across the country.

I have restored over 20 cars myself during that period for my own collection and have worked on and rebuilt many cars for others. My knowledge proficiency is in Auto Body and Paint, Interior Upholstery and Mechanical; involving everything from Engine and Transmission, to Electrical, Brakes and Suspension.

In my estimation, pristine examples of the SC430 Lexus are cars that will become collectable cars, because of their unique design characteristics along with their reputation for quality and reliability. Their unique round-classic shape never goes out of style, and is always appreciated over time.

There is a cult-like following for these cars and should do well over time. The late 80’s Mercedes Benz SL’s as an example are cars that have moved up nicely over the last ten years.

Think about it, this was a $63K car in 2003, today with maybe 1/15th of its mechanical life used up to date it’s the price of a two year old Honda Accord that most likely has more miles!!
