1966 Lincoln Continental Description

1966 Lincoln Continental Convertible

Overview
This 1966 Lincoln Continental Convertible has been owned by a Vancouver, BC collector since 1991 and has been preserved to its original showroom condition. Always garage-stored and professionally maintained, it is an excellent rust-free example of a well cared for driver. It is a numbers-matching, three-owner vehicle that was imported to Vancouver, BC from Seattle, WA. This makes it a very easyreentryto the United States, with no import duty owed, should it find its way back there.

Exterior
Paint is not original but is in very good condition and matches all panels well. It has dust trapped in the finish in some places and the right rear door has a light 3” vertical scratch in the middle. Otherwise, with a simple wash and chamois the overall curb appeal is very, very good. Body and panels are straight with consistent panel gaps.
All chrome and stainless trim is complete and original and in excellent condition.
Convertible Top
All convertible top mechanisms work perfectly. A classic car specialist mechanic inspected the system and changed one of the hydraulic rams a few years ago. The top cover and rear window seem to be original and are in excellent condition.
Glass
All glass is in good condition. Every window has Carlite logo which I suspect means they are all original.
Interior
Original upholstery and carpets are in fantastic condition with no rips or excessive wear. This car even has its original rubber floor mat set.
All instruments work with dashboard and door panels in pristine original condition.
Engine
The 462ci V8 runs smoothly and quietly and makes good power. Some leaks can be seen in the underbody photos of the engine that seem to be coming from oil pan. I suspect that an old, dry pan gasket is to blame and is an inexpensive repair. Otherwise, the engine shows very well from the topside and has all its original covers, factory decals, reservoir bags etc.
The exhaust system was upgraded to full stainless and is very quiet.
A/C refrigerant was updated from R-12 (Freon) to R-134a and blows cold.
Transmission shifts smoothly, just like new.
Wheels and tires
All wheel covers are original and in very good condition with no dents.
Tires are P235/75/R15 Michelin Radial XH M+S tubeless and have good tread remaining.

Underbody

The underbody is exceptionally clean with no signs of excessive corrosion. Floor pans are clean, rockers solid, wheel wells tidy, factory undercoating intact. I would say the under body is a clean as the topside. See pictures for proof.

*The current owner had one small accident in garage. One day while letting the engine warm up, for some reason he had the transmission positioned in neutral and while reaching through the open driver side window for something on the front seat he accidentally bumped the gear selector into drive and lurched the car forward into the end of the parking stall damaging the nose. No mechanical or structural damage was done, just cosmetic damage and a slightly bruised ego. Repairs were completed to a high standard with paint matching the rest of the vehicle seamlessly. Other than that one incident, in 25 years of ownership there have been no other accidents to report. The current owner bought this example from the second owner as a no-accident car.

Summary
Prior to finishing this write up I took the car for a nice top down seaside drive along scenic Marine Drive in West Vancouver. It drove beautifully, garnered many thumbs ups along the way and truly slowed down life’s busy pace enough for me to enjoy stunning view. Driving a top-of-the-line luxury convertible from the 1960s is a privilege that not many people have these days. At the request of the car’s owner, I’ve been the fortunate fair-weather custodian of this fine example for the past few seasons and I have been able to capture genuinely special moments in it that I have never experienced in other vehicles. For example, piling in my six family members, including my 91-year-old grandmother, for a post-Sunday dinner top-down sunset cruise in what felt like a rolling living room was something worth sharing.
This vehicle needs some minor touches to make it better, but as-is and in my opinion it is already perfect. Save yourself the headache of costly repairs and high restoration expenses, buy this first-class driver and get busy making your own unforgettable memories.
