Here we have an amazing example of a designer luxury car of the late 70's. This is no normal Lincoln Mark V but rather a Cartier Edition, for which they only built around eight thousand.
Luxury, power, and an image of success was what the designers of this car had in mind and it definitely shows. Truly this car drives smooth, glides over anything, and has a grand and powerful presence.
The seats are very wide and comfortable, like sitting on a couch. The interior is in excellent condition and very clean. The only thing that could be attended to is the few dark spots on the front seats that can be removed. I didn't try to clean them in case the fabric should discolor and the spots are so small that I will let the next owner decide if they want to try to get them removed.
This car runs like a dream. Starts smooth every timeand it's powerful engine can handle highway speeds with ease. The brakes and tires were replaced less than 1000 miles ago. The car has four rotor brakes which makes it dead silent and stops on a dime.
All work over the years have been done by professionals and I have much of the documentation. The engine was rebuilt at the 100K mark. Carburetorwas replaced with a rebuilt genuine Motorcraft carburetor. Something may need an adjustment because occasionallyon startup the car idles high but after a tap on the gas the idle goes to normal.
Car comes with a fresh new battery. The fuel tank was replaced to ensure no sludge gets into the carburetor, the ECM module was replaced with a new genuine Motorcraft (the originals are famous for failing), and the distributor cap, ignition wires, and spark plugs are all new.
Nearly everything is in working order including:
Power seatsPower windows (including the small bat wing windows in the front)Power antennaPower locksWindshield wipersAM/FM radio with 8-track player (8-track not tested)Heated mirrors
The signature Cartier clock in dashboard still works and keeps excellent time. This is rare and you will often find examples where the clock doesn't work or keeps poor time.
Light covers are pneumatic and open easily. This is also very rare to have these work and work so well. Dashboard lights all work and have a unique blue tint.
All sensors and lights work including the fuel gauge, low fuel gauge, visor lights, key hole lights and door jam lights. The car comes with all four original cigarette lighters.
The vehicle is in need of a paint job and the landaucover needs to be replaced. I was planning on doing both myself but I decided that it was better to have the next owner take care of it so that it is to their liking. Therefore all paint is original and there is no bondo or any attempt to fix the paint.
The only panel that is rusted through is the driver's side front panel. Luckily the car comes with a good replacement fenderthat can be repainted to match the rest of the vehicle (see picture of the replacement fender).
The vehicle also comes with a replacement landau cover that perfectly matches the original (not pictured, still wrapped up and in box). Any body shop or handy person can easily install it.
Unfortunatelythe AC does not work and the belt powering the compressor has been removed to improve fuel economy. The heater and fans still work so it is very comfortable in cold weather. The steering wheel is cracking and fading (see pictures for details).
The buyer is responsible for picking up the vehicle and payment is due within 7 days of the auction end. Only payment in person will be accepted.
