2003 Mazda Protege MAZDASPEED Description

NOTE: I have dropped the starting bid price from $7000 to $6900 to encourage the sale. Even if the car does not sell this go-around, I will not be dropping it any lower than $6900 for any future listings. This car is well worth it and the proof is in the paperwork.
You're looking at a rare piece of import tuner history. This is a 2003 MazdaSpeed Protege in Spicy Orange Mica original factory paint with 102k original miles and a clean vehicle history. Mazda really understood their market when the Fast and the Furious/Need for Speed Underground franchises took off. This car served as a symbol of the times with its bold color and design. It gets looks and compliments everywhere I go. It also has earned many awards as a show car during the ownership of the first and second owners.
Like myself, this car is originally from Portland Oregon. I had this car professionally shipped down to Southern California because I couldn't dream of parting with it (I barely can now).
While it is practically a 2 owner car, this is technically a 3 owner car:
- The first being a 61 year old retired Boeing engineer who thought the car was quote "trick!" and bought it new off of the Mazda lot.
- The second owner was his 38 year old son who is currently a lead design engineer at Xerox Corp. in Wilsonville Oregon.
- The third owner is myself.
If you notice in the background of some of the photos, you'll see what looks like a blue Audi S4 with the engine out of it about to be built to become the 500hp machine that it is today or the red Acura Integra that has also been dialed out. These cars belong to one of the most obsessive, technically minded Chief Avionics Engineers the US Navy has ever produced. He also happens to be a close friend of mine and a co-worker of the second owner at Xerox Corporation.
This is the kind of man who cleans the exhaust piping beneath his daily driver just because it "looks a little dirty." Safe to say his attention to detail is unparalleled. He also believes that just because a car is built to go fast, doesn't mean it should be abused or driven hard. I subscribe to that ideology.
I mention this man because his role in the upkeep and maintenance of the 2003 MazdaSpeed Protege you're looking at right now is highly significant and serves as a testament to its care and condition.
I have four plus binders (pictured below) filled with paperwork ranging from: receipts, records, invoices, factory marketing material, factory service manual, factory owners manual, and chronicles of modifications performed such as: drilled and slotted brake rotor upgrades, cold air intake, custom welded radiator, 5ZIGEN wheel upgrades, turbo and intercooler upgrades (new turbo is factory sized, just more powerful and efficient. Nothing crazy that would compromise reliability). These are just to name a few things as the car is fully loaded with everything but the kitchen sink and dice in the mirror.
This is not your run-of-the-mill import vehicle you see trashed to pieces on the road and sloppily thrown together with mods or god awful stickers that say "illest" on the windshield driven by the kind of punk you wouldn't let near your daughter.
Every nut and bolt on this car is torqued to spec and not one detail has been overlooked. Even though this looks like the kind of car you see being driven like a maniac is at the wheel, it is quite the contrary. I get yelled at for driving too slow more often than not.
In addition to myself, I have many upstanding people available and standing by who can vouch for the credentials of both this car and the mechanic who exclusively cared for it. Including the mechanic himself. He has a prominent presence on multiple car forums such as G2IC.com and Audizine.com creating numerous how-to write ups and solving a variety of diagnostic issues.
At this point, you're probably wondering why I would ever sell this car considering its reliability and tedious care it has received. Well it wasn't without a lot of thought, believe me. But I just started a new job that allows me to justify buying a new, more modern means of transportation. Even though its out of my control, all I ask of the new owner is that they continue to baby it just as I and the previous owners have all its life. Obviously I can't say enough about the car and I'm sure I could keep going, but I think this is a good stopping point for now.
This car is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime provided a local sale takes place. Any and all deposits are non-refundable, so please be sure you are financially prepared to buy the car before bidding.
Thank you for looking and God Bless!
Additional info: Car comes with custom fitted Car Cover ($300), Sun reflector ($75) and custom fitted Dash Mat (not pictured) ($220)
