1986 Mercedes 190d, 71,000 miles, 3rd owner, new tires, has transmission leak
1986 Mercedes-Benz 190-Series Description
Out of town job offer is forcing me to pare down my fleet.
The mileage is correct on this car, it isn't a typo. It has transmission issues (namely, a fluid leak) and while I'd love to fix the leak and keep it, I'm instead moving toward the modern (and certainly less exciting) world of "clean diesel."
I purchased this car from the nephew of its original owner. His aunt and uncle both had MBZ diesels, and it seems they always drove his uncle's for any real distance-based trips. He inherited upon his aunt's death, and then the car was put into more frequent use, and unfortunately, kept outside and driven by a heavy smoker. It is not in as good condition, superficially, as you'd expect due to the low mileage. I will get more pics up over the weekend.
The main mechanical issue is the trans leak. It does not appear to be at the torque converter, and would seem to be coming from the passenger side of the tranny, above the pan where I can't see. I did replace the trans filter and gasket on it after I purchased the car. I have also replaced the air filter, power steering fluid and filter (hengst and Pentosin fluid), and done an oil change. New Vredestein tires (my tire of choice) were swapped onto this from a Saab I recently sold and have under 4k miles on them.
Newer brakes, new starter (I have the receipt), and I have a few suspension parts and serpentine belt that I will throw in. Driver's side power seat needs attention, it will slide forward and backward but won't tilt. Passenger rear door won't open. Sunroof works perfectly with no leaks. I just put in Depo Euro headlight kit last month.
Hesitant to sell this but I'm moving, and getting a more modern, warrantied car for a job that will require lots of driving. My loss is your gain. Car is in Harrisburg PA and I encourage bidders to come see it. Due to the trans leak, I'd be willing to drive this car no more than 150 miles. It could probably go more, but why risk it? It drives great as long as you monitor the transmission fluid.
