Can you imagine how779 horsepowerand1,020 ft-lbsof torquesounds screaming out of a handbuilt 6.0 liter twin turbo V12 engine?
Up for sale is a 2005 Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG with only13,000 original miles. This vehicle carried anMSRP of $192,000when brand new. It is crazy to think that it's possible to own such an exotic vehicle for almost 25% of a new one, especiallyconsidering the car is still almost new with such low mileage.
Just in case you're not familiar with the SL65, in stock form straight from the dealership this engine produces 604 horsepower and 738 ft-lbs of torque. For the normal person, these numbers would be more than enough to please. However, for the person who always craves more and wants nothing but the best, this is the SL65 that you want. It has been lightly massaged with a few tasteful engine/performance,aesthetic, technology, and comfort upgrades that make it totally unique withoutsacrificingany of the original luxury. The interior in the SL65 is truly a special place to be. Everything you that see and touch are high quality materials. The dash, doors, center console, seats, etc are all covered with buttery soft Napa leather. The normal cars (SL500,SL550, SL55) use a cheaper vinyl material on the dash and other parts. It has a rich andsumptuous leather smell inside, reminiscentof a high end leather hand bag.
In stock form, the SL65 does not really have a voice per say. The original exhaust and engine noise is extremely muffled and almost sounds like an electric car. When unleashed with a free flowingexhaustand induction system, this car has a sound that's eerilysimilarto the $1.5 millionPagani Huayra hypercar. The Pagoni actually uses an AMG sourced 6.0 liter twin turbo V12 engine that islooselybuilt around the engine found in the SL65. After the exhaust and induction upgrades performed to this SL65, it now sounds sublime. You can hear the turbos spooling from the outside, the engine ingestingbucketsof air, and the tuned V12 producing an automotive symphony from the tailpipes. The SL65 differs itself from the SL600 with a hand built larger displacement engine with larger turbo chargers (6.0 liters VS 5.5 liters), larger brake calipers, larger 2 piece floating rotors, sports seats, revised suspension tuning, and sportier aerodynamic body kit to name some of the key differences.
To say that driving this vehicle is an out of body experience would be an understatement. In anormalhigh powered car you can expect your neck to snap back into the headrest from the acceleration. In this SL65, your whole body literally gets pinned back into the seat. The 1,020 ft-lbs of torque comes on almostimmediately as the turbos are smaller in size and spool instantly. There is no waiting for the turbos to spool up or turbo lag here. It is an amazing street car and also highway cruiser. You can race and beat almost anything from stop light to stop light and then jump on the highway for a cross country cruise whilst getting a massage from the heated/cooled/massaging seatswith the airconditioningon.
To bring the car up to date in thetechnologydepartment I added a fewnicetiesthat makes daily driving morepleasant. Behind the driver's seat in the storage bin is a Dension Gateway audio converter. This unit allowed me to install a hi-fi bluetooth audio DAC and audio equalizer in the glove box. You can now stream lossless24 bit 192kHz audio from your bluetooth enabled phone with services such as Pandora, Spotify, iTunes, and Tidal. Located within the center console, I installed two hardwired options for charging your cell phone or tablet. There is an Apple Lightning cord and Micro USB cord (QuickCharge 2.0) neatly run into the center console with no wires showing to keep a stock appearance inside.
On the outside of the vehicle, I added a few cosmetic touches which really modernizes and makes the car stand out. A few of the highlights include the 20x9 and 20x11.5 Ferrada ultra deep concave wheels, red brake calipers, SL63 style rear spoiler, SL63 clear third brake light, and carbon fiber rear lower diffuser. This car also has an ELM (Electronic Lowering Module) installed for the suspension. This allows you to raise or lower the suspension (2 inches up or down). You can set speed limiters on the module with a push of a button that allows the car to raise back to factory height at any given speed. This allows that car to have a "slammed" appearance when parked but a normal stock ride height when cruising on the highway for comfort. The control module for the ELM is located within the center console armrest for easy access.
If it sounds like on rambling on about this car, it's because I am. I usually don't get attached to cars but this one is truly something special and gives you that sensation while driving it. I have the clean/clear title in hand and it does not have a lien/loan against it. If you’re purchasing from out of state, I can arrange shipping for the car at a very reasonable price. Please do not hesitate to call/text me with any additional questions at (412) 260-5877.
