1986 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series Description

If you were to construct a list of cars that have shaped the course of the automotive industry in the last 40 years, at or near the top of the list would appear the venerated Mercedes Benz 126 body series. Following two decades of American luxury cars that had become increasingly obese--lathered with pillows and padding and suffocating pollution controls--those dinosaurs, whose bloated bodies labored on spongy suspensions, were out of breath, out of date and nearing extinction.
Mercedes-Benz produced the 560SEC from 1985-1991. Offered in the US from 1985 to 1991, the 560SEC averaged less than 4,132 units per year, worldwide, over its short lifespan, adding to its mystique and rarity.
Offered for sale here is this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC AMG. This is the premier super-coupe from its era and sold for nearly $70,000 back in the mid 1980's. This "youngtimer" classic, in addition to the AMG body kit and spoiler, has had some tasteful modern upgrades including modern AMG-style rims, 3M Carbon Fiber trim, and carbon fiber accents on the roof in addition to (much more desirable and better looking) euro-spec headlights.
The burgundy interior is close to flawless with only a small amount of wear on the driver seat bolster. No warning lights. Everything works. Everything! The air conditioning blows ice cold and does not seep through the defroster vents, and it regulates from warm to cold precisely as it should. The windows all operate perfectly, as do the power locks, seats and cruise control. The original antenna goes up and down (all the way down), the clock keeps accurate time and the lighted vanity mirrors operate properly. The seat belt presenters work as designed.
