Description:

Metallic black exterior (MB paint code 7755) with full black leather interior with 3rdrow seat. 6 cylinder “straight six”, 3.2 lite, chassis code M104.092, 3199 cc fuel injected engine producing 217 hp at 5500 rpm and 195 lbs torque at 4600 rpm. Dual overhead cam design with DOHC 4 valves per cylinder. Cast iron block. I average 20.9 mpg in the city with A/C and 24+ on the highway, speed dependent. Mileage checked every fill up. I only use Shell Premium 93 gas.

This is a 5 door station wagon that seats 7. The 3rdrow seat folds flat into the rear cargo floor. This wagon has sunroof with rear pop up venting, ice cold A/C and a custom stereo. A/C is older style R134 Freon which is still available. I have to add maybe 1/3 or ¼ lbs every 3 summers or so to keep it topped off. It doesn’t leak. Car has ASD or automatic locking differential as well as ASR or acceleration skid control. Dual airbags. Full ABS brakes. Rear suspension is self-leveling with suspension struts rather than shock absorbers, gas filled suspension spheres to provide damping control in conjunction with an under hood hydraulic pump. It’s a hydro-pneumatic rear suspension that uses rear coil springs to maintain a static ride height when parked. The advantages are threefold- self leveling rear end when carrying weight and speed lowering as you travel faster. This wagon shares the same suspension as the SL Mercedes sports cars as well as the S Class. This 124 series of Mercedes E class cars were produced from 1986 until June 1995. A total of 2,058,777 sedans and 340,503 station wagons were produced. This was the last year that each Mercedes was built entirely by hand and built to a cost no object standard.

This car has power steering, power seats, power mirrors, power windows and sunroof and the full climate control set up- A/C, heat, defrost, fresh air feature and re-circulate. Rear removable headrests and both rear seats fold completely flat. Full size spare tire and original jack and tool kit. All original keys including valet key and valet key fob. Front and rear fog lights as well as European right and left side controlled parking light illumination. Additional LED driving lights are mounted under the front bumper complete with custom additional Mercedes fog light switch. Original leather car manual zip close case. Original manual, service books and original literature.

Lastly, this car has an amazing custom stereo- 6 top of the line Q Series MB Quart speakers, Sirius/XM satellite radio, Kenwood Excelon CD deck with Bluetooth, external microphone in the ceiling, remote and removable faceplate, audio input for both ipod and any other USB player, Infiniti 10” subwoofer, 2 auxiliary amplifiers, custom twist knob to control subwoofer level mounted next to driver’s knee and separate external high voltage fuse mounted near the battery. All new monster stereo wires were installed. This system was installed by Creative Car Stereo (Lance Tang) on Camelback, a small two man high end stereo shop in Phoenix, AZ. Lance and I have worked together for 18 years and have redone the stereo(s) in both of my MB wagons. The system is completely removable if you wish to return to factory components. There was no alteration or cutting done of any kind to install this equipment. All the components are hidden and mounted in the rear quarter panel storage compartments with custom fabricated brackets. All wired are carefully zip tied and organized/mounted. Front door speakers are mounted on custom rigid mate black panels that screw into factory location. The front door factory speaker boxes (very small) were removed but can be re-installed. There is a Bluetooth microphone mounted just next to the driver’s sun visor. This stereo is north of 600 watts and can be heard and felt at highway speeds with the sunroof open- our design goal. If you turn it up and yes the speakers can handle the load, it can be so loud that highway traffic hears you approaching from behind! It has a programmable equalizer and whether it’s classical or hard rock- it just sounds amazing. The system is maybe 13 months old in its current configuration as it has been upgraded 4 times in the 11 years I have owned the car. I also have the factory touch up paint and the factory grey/clear touch paint (spray cans) as I had to replace the took hook cover (lower front bumper) and it was unpainted.

Exterior Condition:

The exterior paint is original and has been polished and waxed monthly the past 11 years.

No kidding. The condition, color, depth, clarity and shine on this 20 year old paint is

absolutely superlative. No oxidation or fading. Just polished and waxed professionally

and the result is hard to believe. However there is some minor “patina” which means

there are some very minor blemishes which is expected of a car this age that was driven

on a regular basis. There are a few teeny tiny dents on the rear passenger door where my

kids have dinged the door into my wife’s Jeep.

Original factory chrome grill is excellent and free of defects. Headlight glass housings

and chrome is excellent. Both glass (not plastic) headlight lenses are near new and have no dings or cracks or chips. Amber turn signal lenses and tail lamps are

perfect without any fading or cracking. Clear back up lights are clear and perfect.

Original factory stickers under hood, in trunk and in door jambs and fuel

door are excellent. VIN tab in windshield is excellent. Interior door jamb specification

plates are perfect.

Interior Condition:

Interior looks as it did when delivered in 1995. Stunning and hard to believe it is this nice. 100% original black leather which is perfect. Breathtaking condition with no rips, tears, sagging, no diminished support in seat pads, no pleats have shifted and appear almost completely unused. Rear seat was always used with a blanket underneath when using car seats and boosters. Rear seats look absolutely unused. The original Black wool loop carpet throughout is excellent, without any stains, unraveling, tears and only minimal color fading. Factory leather dash is flawless without any cracks at all. I regularly used Griott’s Leather Oil to treat all the leather and dash. I have never seen an original 1995 Mercedes with an interior this nice. Interior window rubber seals are perfect and rubber looks fresh and tight. Headliner is cream grey colored heavy duty cloth and is perfect without any sags, rips or stains. The leather (real) door panels and map pockets look brand new. Instrument cluster looks as new without any fading of needles or numbers. Needles do not vibrate or “jump” at low speeds. Wood trim is nearly perfect with one minor crack like blemish on lower center console between seats. 4 black Mercedes accessory cup holders are installed- one on each door. All accessory switches, knobs, buttons, turn signal lever are in excellent condition without any only minimal faded symbols on most used A/C button and one window switch. There are no faded colors on climate control switches and are all in proper working order. Steering wheel is firm and tight with only slight slack or steering play due to mileage on steering box. Mechanic and I agreed not to rebuild steering box until mileage hits 250K and it begins to play more. I went through this with my 1983 wagon and I drove it for 465K. My same MB mechanic has serviced both wagons in the last 18 years that I have lived in Phoenix. Steering wheel leather looks excellent. All seat belts work as they should and the seat belt fabric is near perfect, black, without any fading, fraying, stains or apparent wear. Seat belt clasp (male and female parts) are near perfect without any fading of colors or logos.

NOTE:

Evidence that this car has been garage kept its whole life is apparent in interior

condition. The black leather dash is perfect and stunning, without any cracks at

all. Dash speaker grills are flush, perfect, not warped or sun damaged. Black

carpets in rear cargo area looks excellent and is covered by a custom rubber cargo

mat, laser cut to fit. Black interiors will fade if exposed to prolonged sunlight and

there is virtually no fading anywhere on any interior pieces. Door panel leather is

perfect without any sagging, bunching, shrinking or other defects found in cars that

have been exposed to the elements/sun. All door seals (doors are triple sealed) are

thick rubber and perfect. No drying or shrinking on any rubber seals- windows or

doors. All perfect. Window sill felt is perfect. All windows tinted with metallic AZ

Sun Shield window tinting. Rear windows are limo tint and front doors are 35%. All

legal. Window tint has lifetime warranty and I have paperwork.

Mechanical Condition:

This wagon runs and drives like a dream. Exceptionally well maintained. Extensive service documentation and dealer service stamps in book. TheM104.0926 cylinder 3.2 liter straight six engine is world renown for durability and fuel efficiency. While engine is considered a high performance power-plant, I still achieve excellent fuel mileage. This is a car that has served as a Taxi worldwide and many have accumulated well over a half million miles. Gas mileage in city averages 20.9 mpg with AC running. Car averages 24-30 on highway depending on speed and hills. I check mpg each fill up. Automatic transmission is tight and firm. Shift action is smooth without vagueness or sloppiness. Independent suspension is solid and comfortable. Steering feel is smooth and responsive, devoid of shakes, shimmy or steering play. Car has been recently aligned and tracks true and straight. Engine compartment is very clean, free of any grease or oil and all factory rubber and trim within engine compartment looks new and fresh. Hood foam pad looks new. Not falling apart. Undercarriage is equally clean. Car was recently serviced with oil change, radiator/coolant flush, new radiator hoses, new oil cooler lines, new brake rotors and pads both front and rear. There are no pending mechanical issues that I am aware of.

What’s Wrong with this Car?

There really is not much wrong with this wagon. Little things to handle at the next oil

service. Here is the list:

1.Driver’s side mirror has cracked plastic trim piece that fits between the square mirror and the body work. The part is available for around $40.

2.Combination switch (turn signal etc) needs to be replaced. The high beam actuator is going bad so the high beams won’t stay on. $68 part at performanceproducts.com. The original switch lasted 16 years. I have replaced the switch 4 times in the last 4 years with an OEM part and they have all had issues. I had this car sold (see last paragraph) and the buyer wanted to fix it himself as I had lost patience.

3.Oil Pressure Sending unit is sending a weak signal. This unit screws into the bottom of the oil filter and sends a message to the oil pressure gauge in the dash cluster that reads 0-1-2-3. The gauge is reading but the signal is sluggish some days. Not worth wasting an oil change to replace the sender until the next oil service. The oil pressure in the car is just fine. I had previously stated I would replace this at the next oil change when I listed the car previously (again same, see below) and we just plum forgot. $19.99 part at performanceproducts.com

4.The power antenna is slow to go up and down. I don’t mind since I listen to Satellite radio.

5.The front door checks are noisy. In other words the front doors sometimes squeak a little when you open them. Common to older MB. They were recently lubed and are much better.

Why is this Car priced high?

I bought this car as a one owner car from a dealer inHouston,Texaswith about 70,000 miles and every single service done at the dealer and stamped. The car has always been in Texasand nowArizona. There is no rust. This car has been fastidiously maintained (read- anal retentive to the point of making my wife mad) by MB Motors inPhoenix. The shop owner and good friend Bud has worked on this car for 11 years, previously worked on another wagon of mine for 8 years and he is the President of the local MBCA club. All told, Bud has worked on 5 different MB that I have owned over the last 18+ years. I have driven a total of maybe 470,000 miles on all these cars combined and he has serviced them all.

I know what I have. There are very few of these 124 series wagons left in this condition. I only know of two inPhoenixthat are nicer than mine. One burgundy/black and one cream/cream. Considering the price of new cars and the price and value received when buying a used car, this wagon is worth it.

I have done all the most expensive repairs such as rebuilding the transmission when reverse started to slip a little. I replaced all the diaphragms in the center vents which required the entire dash to be removed. I have replaced all of the suspension components from the sub-frame down when some of the bushings and struts became worn, I replaced them all. I replaced the rear self leveling struts. I will include a partial list of repairs done over the last 11 years and the 94,000 I have driven the car. Why did I spend so much money to maintain a used MB when I would never possibly ever get my investment back?

1.My wife and twins ride in this car. Family- enough said.

2.I wanted to enjoy the best this car had to offer.

3.I live inPhoenixand nobody ever wants to break down when it’s 115 ++ degrees. It’s life threatening at those temps.

4.When I drive alone (early morning light traffic commute), I will admit to driving very quickly. I wanted everything to be safe. Rock solid. No doubts.

5.I’m a car freak J

·Replaced Rear Brake Rotors and Ceramic Pads at 156.9K

Why am I selling my wagon?

It really doesn’t make sense for me to sell this car since I have done all the scary and expensive repairs. I have total confidence in this car and for a 20 year old car, it’s as nice or nicer than most new vehicles. I am so confident in this car that I regularly drive it at 80-85+ mph for hours. But…the wife wants another SUV and we have 3 kids.

Wasn’t this car previously listed???

·YES. You are an astute ebay car enthusiast.

·I listed my car 13 months ago for $10,500. I patiently worked with a buyer while he worked to raise the funds. He paid me $1000 which he forfeited.

·Was I naïve? Why wait so long?

·Well this gentlemen works in a professional industry that demands ethical standards beyond reproach. I naturally assumed his personal moral character and standards of decorum would follow suit.

·He had a relative in Scottsdale come look at the car and they loved it.

·He sent me dozens of emails assuring me in writing that he wanted to buy this car. He needed more time. We spoke on the phone many times. He texted me. He did pay me $1000 after all.

·Needless to say, I will never be so accommodating again.

·The car is a year older. It has 10K more miles. I have continued to maintain it as before. I have lowered the price.

·The car is still outstanding you will still be hard pressed to find one this nice and so extensively maintained. When you see the car and the records, you will agree that the price is justified. You just can’t fake it that much. We are still talking about very reasonable used car pricing.

·A price too much lower would make me pause. They are no cheap used Mercedes. You get what you pay for. I am willing to wiggle on the price some, not much.

·The car really is that nice. I want to keep it but family comes first this time.
