1996 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series Description

A collector car enthusiast’s great opportunity….. offered for sale is a beautiful 1996 Mercedes SL500 R129 meticulously maintained with low mileage and no known mechanical defects except the rear antenna does not function, recently discovered as the radio does work. The black paint has a luxurious finish with only a few minor scratches. I have not noticed any paint chips. The paint is all original except for the front and rear bumpers which have been repainted. There are newer tires on the vehicle, and the battery and the soft top hydraulic cylinders were replaced in July of 2015. During this service work over $3,400 dollars were spent to check all aspects of the vehicle and make any necessary repairs. No oil leaks exist. It has received regularly scheduled service. The interior is almost perfect even including the floor mats. This is the second version of the model years (1996 - 1998) that is considered to be the most desirable. For example, the automatic 5 speed transmission and side air bags were first offered in 1996. With electronic stability control, antilock brakes, "adaptive damping" shock absorbers and front airbags, the R129 SL was among the most technologically advanced vehicles of that era. This is a rare car in the U.S. with just 2,742 sold in 1996. With only two owners and driven about 1,000 miles a year, this vehicle shows and drives like new. It deserves a number (2) or excellent rating. The car with this rating and vintage is hard to find. In summary, this car looks and drives like a one year old vehicle. Anyone interested, should spend a little time understanding the engineering, features, and capabilities of this unique vehicle. It is truly an amazing car that provides the driver with a most rewarding experience. This car purchased new in 1996 in today’s dollars would would have cost approximately $135,000. A clean CarFax report is available upon request. I am a friend of the owner who purchased this car for her husband who can no longer drive. Email or call for additional information.
