I own some great cars, and this is one of my favorite. However, every now and then I have to let some go to makeroom in the garages for others. That is the case here.

Very well preserved, documented and pampered 1996 SL500

This gorgeous SL is in fantastic condition.

Constant compliments when she's out.

Always babied since new.

All records since new.

Went in about 200 miles ago for its yearly complete inspection and service.

I don't care what it cost to keep things up to speed. And, it needs to be factory correct. My long time Mercedes mechanic knows me and this very well.

The shop always has carte blanche to replace or fix ANYTHING that may need it or is about to.

I just had the battery changed out only because the current one was 3 years old.I drive any of my cars from the 1960s to present day from sea level to 6000 feet in the California mountains on a moments notice so I don't take chances on batteries, maintenance and so on.

About a thousand miles ago I had the following done as preventative since I was going on a fun road trip with her:

water pump, coolant, thermostat, expansion tank cap, by pass hoses, oil pressure switch, lower oil pan gasket, oil level sensor, trans mount, misc sensors. A few thousand spent on a car that had already always been maintained to the extreme. Prior owner of many years was a very successful businessman who too never worried about repair costs. He just wanted it all as it should be as well.

Amazing, original paint except where a bicycle in the garage tipped against the rear quarter panel and left two small 2 inch scratches. I couldn't stand it and took it to the body shop that has looked after all my Porsches, Corvettes, Mercedes...new and used over the years. They fixed it flawlessly. I have a pic of the two little scratches pre fix to show as well.

Perfect interior. No dash cracks, no seat cracks. Spotless carpet. The factory Mercedes stereo was rebuilt with new volume knob etc. Cost more to rebuild the original stereo than putting in a new stereo but I just do not like non factory stereos in classic/iconic cars. The soft top is original and shows some light hazing/wear on the plastic windows, see recent pic. Has the hard top as well of course. Original Mercedes windshield and glass.

If you're looking for an SL500 you want the 1996, 1997 or 1998 as you'll find in your research.

1996, 1997, 1998 are the best engine, trans, build combo years and pre Chrysler watering them down inside and out 1999 and on.

1996 SL500, 71k original miles, clean carfax, clean title, Mercedes AMG rims that were a $5,000 option.

I search obsessively for weeks/months when a car is on my radar, buy the absolute best out there, fine tune it to the extreme inside and out, enjoy it and then hope the next person does the same as its curator. I've owned the SL about 2 years, which is long for me! But, asmentioned, she's a special one.

Feel free to email any questions, I'm also happy to talk on the phone.

You can fly in and pick the SL up in Palm Springs, CA (I keep her at a house I have about 45 miles from PS) or possibly Los Angeles. I'm fine meeting with your shipper as well if that's the case.
