1968 Mercedes Benz 220D , Garaged since 1972 , needs some reassembly
1968 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Description
This listing is for a 1968 Mercedes Benz 220D 4 door sedan with automatic transmission and air conditioning. This car has been in the garage since 1972! It just saw sun light today when I rolled it out to take pictures. This was my grandfathers car originally, which he purchased new and picked up from the factory in Germany. He shipped it overseas to Michigan and passed away soon after. It then became my fathers car which he drove for about two years, He then parked it in the garage in 1972 when it started smoking out the tailpipe (more than normal) and running rough (more than usual). It was determined that one of the cam lobes and corresponding rocker arm was worn. Has not been fixed. He then later took off the door panels and side chrome to rustproof the doors and rocker panels. He replaced the original front bumper also with a later model bumper. After that he did nothing and it sat for 44 years .He recently rebuilt the injectors but has not done any reassembly. It has no rust. He has most of the parts except for the rear drivers side side marker and the original front bumper. When he put it in the garage in 72 he did not remove the fuel from the tank which resulted in a pencil size hole in the gas tank. The engine rocker arm cover was removed as well as the oil pan and are just put back without gaskets. As I mentioned, the car was running in 72 when he put it in the garage and the engine is not seized. We do not know if it will run and have not repaired or reassembled it to try to start it. There is no battery also. There are some minor dings on the passenger side, some minor scratches and some fading of the paint (which is original) as expected from sitting so long. He has the original interior door panels as well as some new aftermarket ones. It needs the passenger side rear quarter glass in the back door which was broken. The front windshield also has some chips. It also comes with a new short block (240D) which needs assembly. From sitting so long we anticipate that there may be, and most likely are, other problems that we don't know about. My dad is too old to mess with it and I don't have the skills or funds to restore i, so he says to let it go to someone who can do something with it. I have done the best of my ability to accurately describe the car but inspection before purchasing is recommended. The car is located in Allen Park, Michigan. Cash upon pickup. It is the buyers responsibility to pick up the car or have it picked up by a shipping company and it is the buyers responsibility for the cost and to make all arrangements with them. Car must be picked up from the home, we will not move it except back out of the garage. Please write if you have any questions. Please do not ask what the reserve is, I am not disclosing it. I may offer it to the high bidder if it doesn't meet the reserve but is close. Thanks.
