2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class Description

For Sale is our Mercedes R350. We bought this (nearly) new in 2007. It had about 10,000 miles on it as a dealer demo. Back in 2006, the Crossover market was just getting started and the R350 approached it with a flair for performance and comfort. If you're considering a Mercedes R-series, you've probably read the reviews and have a pretty good understand of this car.
My own take:
For me, this car replaced an Audi A6. When I first drove it I thought it was a bit too big. I've come to love its size. With comfortable seating for 6 adults, it rivals minivans for space; but this is no minivan. With full time, all-wheel drive it offers poor-weather reliability of an SUV; but this is no SUV either. With storage capacity of 85 cubic feet, it is way bigger than Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander. Even the Toyota Forerunner is only 2 cubic feet bigger. This wagon will swallow a full sheet of plywood, and transport it down the freeway at 135 miles an hour. With its wagon-like platform, it is far more comfortable and far more predictable than either a minivan or an SUV. None of the crossovers can compare in size, performance, or comfort. Plus, you'll be the only one on your block to drive one.
This car is great for exploring families. Our girls were little when we bought the car. It hauled us to the coasts and to the mountains, and to soccer practice too. Now the kids are off at college, but the car's cavernous interior held all of both of their gear as we dropped them off last fall. . ..a trip of over 2000 miles. (full disclosure -- their bikes and some gear went onto a roof-top rack)
Now it is time for us to move on. Our R350 is in very good condition, but not completely free of the tracks left by years of use by our family. There is a door ding in the right rear door (you can see it in the pictures) and a dimple in the roof near the back hatch (really hard to see). The rest of the exterior is very clean. The interior is full leather and in excellent condition. All of the seats and rests look and operate as if they were new. All of the controls are perfect as well except for the front-passenger temperature control which, at times, can be finicky. Options include heated front seats, moon roof, wider (and nearly new) 255x60 R17 tires, and power 3rd row windows.
Beyond the routine maintenance, we have replaced the serpentine belt at 60k, a stuck-open thermostat at 68k, the rear air suspension at 70k, and the front brake pads at 105k. Beyond these problems, the car has been completely reliable to us. We believe that this car will safely and reliably transport your family for many years to come.
