Mercedes-Benz 220s Cabriolet
1959 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 220s Cabriolet Description
Lovely example of the gorgeous and very rare Mercedes 220 S. Original 93,545 mile Pennsylvania since car that has had three documented owners and very unique history. Was first titled in Pa.on 10/22/1959 but sold to second owner in 1965, where it was given as high school graduation present to young man going to college in Richmond, Va. Believe it or not the young mans father new the original owner as they were from the same town. There it remained, always garaged and only used for very important dates through grad school in 1969 into 1973 where it was put into storage from time to time as it just wasn't used in the winter months. After grad school he had fully serviced and took on long trips until 1984 during the summer months. It was taken to well known Mercedes tech as it required some rear end service and have a general look over. Turns out it only needed rear shocks. For many years there after until 1993 was used only sparingly as life and family became priority. From 1993 was weekend nights etc. again as new girl from England arrived. Then she went to storage again until 1999. That is when restoration began, All chrome was removed and plated by Librandi's near Harrisburg, PA. Entire wood work was done by Nands wood refinishing in Gordonsville, PA. All mechanicals were completed by R and K Motors in Newark, Del. and took a long time to complete. All this was done at just over 90k miles with everything possible needing to be done. I purchased brand new correct German canvas top and liner at quite a cost at the time, all body work was done was stripped and put in primer and then in 2008 I lost interest and funding so sold to a good friend on July 20th 2008. I had owned that car a better part of 43 years. He started to complete the car having very high quality paintwork done but also ran out of time and money in 2014. We ended up buying it then started final completion. Interior was stripped, the carpet replaced with proper material, installed, the top, all chrome, trim etc. Did a complete tune up with new fuel tank, brake system complete, lines etc as some of the earlier work needed to be redone again because of time. We left the original leather because most of it besides the drivers seat had held up so well we just didn't have the heart to replace it. We have a price to redo entirely which can be negotiated into the deal but truly love the 57 year quality and look of the leather so left it be for the next proud owner. Car runs and drives fantastic with all electrical working. We do have the factory spare which is correct but little wider white wall than other four ties and still needs a few cosmetic things to bring to the next level, but overall a really tremendous, rust free, undamaged car that has a simply story book ownership history. Comes with all documents and wonderful letters from first two owners. We are truly looking for a good home for this one.
