1982 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Description

1982 Mercedes 240 D

306,000 Miles Clear Virginia Title

VA Inspected Until 8/16

This has a inline 4 cly diesel engine, 4spd manual box.

We drive it quite regularly. Always starts in any kind of weather. When it got down to 18' F here this winter, she started right up.

Has great brakes, steers like any other w123 car we have owned. Numerous front end bits have been replaced a few years ago.

Top speed is around 80mph. We get around 30ish MPG.

No rot in the floors, and or trunk. Only real rust to speak of is the bottom of the front fenders. Would be almost perfect otherwise.

All the windows, and sun roof work well. Heater blows hot.

It has been well maintained it's whole life. With that kind of mileage- it would have to be! Runs and drives like it has just a ΒΌ of that. Shifts well.

We have numerous service records on it. Even the original lot window sticker.

I have recently done, and or installed the following:

Diesel Purge

Valve adjustment

Monark Injector Nozzels

New Timing chain, tensioner -OEM parts

IP adjustment

Glow plugs& holes reamed

Ignition Lock Vacuum Switch

Rear diff fluid change

All motor, and trans mounts

Oil filter housing gasket

Engine oil change& filter

Thermostat

Rad-hoses

Belts

Have some other parts to go with it(gaskets and things).

Has fairly new shocks.

Some things that are not so great would be:

That Fender rust

The right Mirror is stuck, has a little one on it for now.

A chunk of foam missing from the wheel. Haven't a clue as too why.

The front seats sag a tad to their door. Fairly common among higher MB cars.

No A/C as of now. Has had in the past 10 years 1000's of dollars spent on it. Never got to looking at it yet.

The idle control cable is broken. Only is a minor inconvenience when starting cold. Thankfully it warms up very quickly.

As with most of these W123's, the fuel gauge has a mind of its own. Thankfully it is great on diesel, so it has never bothered us

One of the yellow fog lenses has a crack-works fine though.

Vacuum door locks are non functioning.

In one of the underside pictures, you can see the drivers side floor is a kind of blacker than the rest. It was due to a oil filter housing leak. Just fixed that as the pictures were taken. A small drip adds up over time!

So in other words, it's rough around the edges. A good, solid, dependable car would best describe it. Used with care, and respect.

She is ready to drive away today. Tires are in good shape. Even comes with a full tank of diesel. Also every Mercedes Official repair guide I have(pdf) format.

Of course she has scrapes, dings, as something like this would. It is not perfect, but damn dependable.

The kind of car you don't worry about in the parking lot!
