1938 Mercedes-Benz Other 540K Description

Hello Mercedes Pre-War Enthusiasts,

up for sale is here a rare Mercedes 540K Cabriolet B body from 1938 – Karosserienummer No. 843304

The body number refers to “Auftragsnummer” 040121 which indicates chassis No. 169394; engine No. 169394

Attention: There is no official proof by Mercedes-Benz Classic Department that the shown Body was original mounted on Chassis No. 169394 - for obvious reasons.

HISTORY:

Unfortunately, there are only some milestones in the cars history known – we are grateful for any further information on the history

Chassis No. 169394 was ordered in late 1936 by Maurice J. Zamaria a Citrus growing Businessman from Jaffa in the Mandatory Palestine.

While the offered body left the Sindelfingen body shop on April 9th of 1937 the Arab revolt in Palestine and the uprising regime in Germany lead to suspension of delivery.

While traces about 040121 get lost during WW II it is known to be transported from US controlled zone in Germany to the US shortly after WW II - about 1947

Some 50 years later we found back trace while the car was sold to Europe as complete body and chassis from Waterbury, CT USA in mid-2001

In 2013 the shown body was discovered in a south-German storage

Today the whereabouts of the chassis and engine is unknown but thought to have remained in the European Region

Future Outlook:

Here you have the rare chance to save a nearly complete 540K Cabriolet B-Body

As prices for original and non-transformed cars soar – it is obvious that future Top-Price Cars will NOT be “reconstructed” clone roadsters.

Latest Amelia Island auctions indicate that trend - with original bodied cars beating the known limits
