Without a doubt, this is one of the lowest mileage and also cleanest SL500 you'll find up for sale. Keep in mind, the owner and seller of this vehicle is a collector and is very meticulous about all of his vehicles. A lot of people sell these cars after realizing the enormous maintenance bills they may potentially face and there are a lot of poorly maintained examples on the market. This car just received thousands upon thousands of dollars in maintenance work correcting numerous common faults these cars all have. Although the car has extremely low miles, a lot of preventative maintenance and repairs were done to address common failure points on this generation SL. In theory, this car should be extremely reliable and headache free for the next owner. The oil and fluids were flushed and performed very often on this car even though it was rarely driven. Engine oil was changed every 3-4k with fully synthetic fluids. Recently it just had the oil changed with Liqui Moly full synthetic and also Liqui Moly Ceratec was added. No doubt an OEM Mercedes-Benz oil filter was used. Recent maintenance work in the last 3 months include, new engine mounts, new control arm bushings, new thrust arm bushings, new vario flap brackets, new transmission valve body, full transmission flush, brake fluid flush and a full alignment was performed. These were all done with genuine Mercedes-Benz parts. Many of these above parts fail due to time and/or a revised updated came out at some point fixing common failures which are now addressed. Other items that were addressed was the commonly problematic PSE system. Most if not all R230 have non functional PSE systems, symptoms include failing trunk soft-close mechanism, multi-contour seats not working, etc. Although most leave it alone due to the high cost of repair, functions not working meant that this car wasn't perfect. The entire PSE pump was replaced with a new OEM unit from the dealership ($1,100), a new OEM trunk actuator ($300) was installed to address the commonly failing trunk actuator, new door lock actuators ($1,200) were installed as the old ones were leaking, and replaced any leaking PSE air line. The entire system now works flawlessly without any issues. For those worried, the entire ABC system was fully inspected and also checked with STAR/SDS and given a clean bill of health. The car has had no history of any ABC issues either. The fluid itself is clean and does not appear to have any contamination or breakdown. Both main battery have also been replaced with Genuine Mercedes-Benz parts about a year ago. There are two batteries on the R230, one in the engine compartment and another is besides the spare tire in the trunk. The top functions without any hesitation, there are no leak or evidence of a hydraulic leak on any of the hydraulic cylinders of mechanisms. The vario flaps were recently updated to a newer version that fixed any issues with the earlier R230. Cosmetically this car is in showroom shape. Any paintwork that may be damaged by rocks or debris over time has been prevented by covering these areas with clear bra. The paint also has no noticeable or significant chips or scratches. The entire car does not have any dings or dents from parking lots either, this was done by carefully parking the car every time. The edges of the doors are flawless and do not have chips from careless entry and exit. The paintwork itself is in great shape and has been professionally detailed very frequently. The interior feels and smells like the day it was new. No wear on any of the leather, plastics or any surfaces. The seats have no bolster wear and all the fit and finish is like day one. This is a non-smoker, no pets, no odors, and definitely no story example you've been looking for. The spare tire seems unused, the tool kit and air compressor are all present and the first-aid kit is inside the storage cubby under the passenger seat. Everything is where it is supposed to be. The car will come with two newer/updated Mercedes-Benz keys (chrome version) which were ordered, programmed and cut directly from Mercedes. There are also two credit card keys which will be included. A total of four keys will come with this SL500. This car has never been driven in the snow or any harsh weather conditions. It has been adult-owned, garaged and driven only on sunny days here in Southern California. It has only been filled up with 91-Octane fuel at Top Tier fuel stations. Needless to say, there is not a spec of rust anywhere on this car. Like stated before, the car has some tasteful upgrades. Everything is easily reversible if the buyer chooses and the stock wheels, exhaust and suspension links can be included if desired. I am happy to assist and encourage interested parties both local and out of state to get a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) done at any Los Angeles area Mercedes-Benz dealership they choose and/or an independent Mercedes-Benz repair facility to verify the condition of this car.
