2007 Mercedes-Benz R320 CDI 4matic with 167,175 miles on it. For anyone that doesn’t know, the R series CDI (diesel) is one of the greatest cars on the road and really had no comparables. It is diesel for great economy while it seats 6 normal sized adults, has all-wheel drive and the safety and comfort of a large sturdy vehicle. The only reason people coined the term it rides like a Cadillac is because they have never ridden in a Mercedes. Most 3rd row vehicles are an afterthought and only tiny children can fit back there. Huge SUV’s like excursions orsuburbansor mini-vans are the next best choices, full size vans after that. Only Toyota has an all wheel drive minivan and then you have a mini-van and all of its great style and class. The huge SUV’s are gas guzzlers. Until this year, GM had the only full size van that was OEM all-wheel drive and then it wasn’t a diesel. I have one of those too and it gets 15 MPG where this gets around 23-24. If you don’t need all the seats, the 3rd row and second row fold flat and make a huge level cargo area without having to remove anything from the vehicle.
HISTORY: This was my wife’s car. She put almost all of the miles on it. We bought it in August 2011 with 33,693 miles on it from the Mercedes Benz dealer in West Chester PA as a certified pre-owned vehicle with the warranty to 125,000 I believe. It had been titled in Florida and the dealer told us it was snowbirds that lived here in the summer and in Florida in the winter. My wife drives a lot and this car faithfully cranked out about 30,000 miles per year. It was always serviced at the dealer at recommended intervals. BUT, my wife loves/needs/wants newer technology. That being said she wanted a car with all the connectivity they now offer so she got a new car with all the goodies. Now sadly it is time to say goodbye to this one. I do wish they still made it as we would certainly have bought another.
THE GOOD: It really is in pretty good overall shape. I have clear title in hand. It just passed PA inspection with no issues and it good until July 2017. All 4 tires are new with less than 1000 miles on them. They are USA made tires, not some cheapy Chinese ones. Front and rear brakes are new with less than 1000 miles on them. Both wear sensors were also replaced. It has been in no real accidents we are aware of although my wife did crack the front bumper that got replaced. It has no rust we are aware of. It has no dents or body repair we are aware of. The interior carpet and seats have worn like iron and still look great. It has always had MB floor mats installed. The 3rd row US made, the front and second row German made. One small crack in the driver’s seat. All electronics and power things work and there are no warning lights for service. Two know R-series issues were recently repaired. One was replacing the master control switch for windows, locks and mirrors in the driver’s door. One button had popped out. The rear hatch release mechanism was also replaced when it became temperamental, both within the past year. It starts, runs, shifts and stops just like it did when we bought it. I did not have the car detailed or waxed. I didn’t even wash it with soap. This is just how it normally looks with a pressure washer rinse and vacuum and a quick wipe for dust and dirt. I would have no problem hopping in a driving to California and back, we just don’t need 5 vehicles.
THE BAD: I am going to share everything I know but I am no mechanic or expert so please don’t take this as a promise there isn’t something I missed or am unaware of. I try my best. This car has the sunroof. We don’t like or use them so while we opened it a few times when we first got it, we had not used it for a couple years. One day when we picked it up from the dealer, the cloth shade was opened. My wife pushed the button to close it but it would not move. Under warranty the dealer fixed it, saying the cable had gotten caught in the track but it was working fine again. They said if it happened again it could damage the track and cause an expensive repair. We didn’t care, hadn’t used it and didn’t plan on it. So the winner is getting a sunroof that has not been opened since the dealer fixed what they broke. It will not be opened until the vehicle has been paid for and then it is on you. I know it was only the shade part but the last thing I wanted was a car with a hole in the roof and a large bill to close it. Quite a while ago, the dealer told us there was an oil leak on a cooler line. It never left a drop on the ground where we park so we never worried about fixing it as it was of course a costly thing for a dealer to do, like everything they do! In all its miles, we only add about a quart between oil changes. It hasn’t been driven for a couple months now and when I took it in for inspection, the mechanic noticed a little motor oil where the engine meets the transmission. I don’t know if it is just from lack of use or something that developed from use. I did see a drop or 2 where it sat for a week but never saw a drop before that. There are minor blemishes all over. The worst I pictured. In 2012 my wife cracked the front plastic bumper thing on someones truck hitch and it was replaced by insurance. That new replaced piece has a place in the front center where paint is missing from the plastic bumper. (see pic) There is a brush mark on the back side bumper, a long brush mark down the passenger side where a Rhododendron jumped out of our garden in front of my wife as she went out our drive. Darn bushes, I wish they would stay in the garden. ( many may buff out) Same bush broke the passenger mirror which I had to get replaced! There a ding in the top of the hatch, no idea how that got there. There are numerous stone paint chips in the front and on the hood. There is a small spot at the bottom of one wheel well on the front fender missing paint and getting a touch of surface rust. The interior is very good for the age and miles. I could only find one small crack in the driver’s seat, (see picture). There is one horizontal vent louver with the end broken and it doesn't sit straight (see pic). There are numerous small marks or stains here and there, and some wear on the floor mats and exposed carpet. There may be crumbs or other bits hidden in deep cracks. There is a little fraying at the bottom corner of one of the rear seat backs, only exposed when folded flat, probably from sliding something across it. One key fob has a cracked piece of plastic missing from the panic button and doesn’t do anything but start the car. I don’t know if it is a dead battery or broken. The other works fine. Both orange front marker lenses have a piece missing from the edge. Again no idea how or why but it doesn’t go into the bulb area is barely noticeable and causes no issues.
TERMS: You are buying the vehicle as is with no warranty stated or implied. I am no expert and have told all I know. Please ask questions, come take a look, come take a ride, ask for more pictures. I will help however I can. I expect to be paid within 14 days. I would rather you pay when you come in cash as they you come you see you pay and we are both happy. If you send a personal or certified check, it must clear before the vehicle leaves. I pride myself on good descriptions and buyers that get what they expected based on my pictures and descriptions. Please ask the boss before you bid. When you win, your money is mine, my car is yours. I took a lot of time and it took a lot of effort to list this, please be respectful and don’t ruin it for me. I have had winners never show, never pay, change their mind etc. I set a low reserve $3500 and I don’t have a buy it now. It will sell to the high bidder. I am not one of those losers that lists the item over and over each time with a winning bidder they arranged to run up the price and win it back when it doesn’t get what they want. Its here to sell. Good luck!
