1996 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class -- Description

Hello and thank you for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I sell vehicles differently than most dealers. Buying your next car or truck through one of my NO RESERVE auctions is the best way to take the games out of your next automotive purchase. I personally road test each vehicle before it is offered for sale so I can give you my first hand opinion of how it runs and drives. Please keep in mind that I am not a mechanic. Each vehicle is represented accurately and honestly to the best of my knowledge and ability. Please take the time to read this entire description as well as our Terms & Conditions carefully BEFORE asking questions or placing a bid as most answers can be found in at least one of those places. An administrative fee of $149 will be added to the final bid of each auction. Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a 1996 Mercedes-Benz SL320 with just 60k original miles. I would rate the exterior of this SL320 to be in ABOVE AVERAGE CONDITION for it's age and mileage. As you can see, this is a beautiful roadster. It is finished in Beige over matching tan interior with a brown soft top, which is a good color combination. The finish has a mile deep shine and looks as smooth as glass all around. As with any older vehicle, please expect a few flaws and imperfections commensurate with age and mileage. However, you'd be hard pressed to find anything worth complaining about as you walk around the exterior of this Merc. All of the trim and cladding is present and shows well. All of the body lines are nice and straight. The hood, doors and trunk all open and close easily. All of the glass and lenses are intact. The factory alloy wheels show well and are wrapped in nice rubber with average tread all around. The soft top looks great for it's age and does not show any excessive wear. Please take your time and check out each of the photos carefully. I would also rate the interior of this SL320 to be in ABOVE AVERAGE CONDITION for it's age and mileage. The door cards are clean and tight. The dash and headliner are clean. The carpets are clean and full looking throughout the interior. The tan leather seats are supple, comfortable and show minimal wear. All of the interior lighting is working properly. The power windows, locks, seats and mirrors all work properly. The power top does work but I know that there is a leak in one of the hydraulic cylinders so I would not recommend operating it until the leak is repaired as to not further damage the system. I did not lower the top in the photos for this reason and will not allow the top to be operated while the vehicle is in my possession. The climate control system is fully automatic and appears to be working properly. The audio system is original. The trunk is spacious and clean. The original wind deflector is included. Also included is the original First Aid kit, original owner's books and the original $78,000+ window sticker. Pride in ownership shows throughout this low, low mileage SL320. Mechanically, this SL320 appears to be in good running and driving condition. The 3.2L straight six cylinder engine starts easily and runs smoothly. I didn't notice any leaks and the engine does not smoke. As you'd expect, her road manners are excellent. The suspension feels tight and well sorted. Steering and braking feel excellent, too. The engine keeps perfect temperature and excellent oil pressure at all times. There have been no idiot lights on during my road test (except the one for the top). The engine is smooth and makes great power. The straight six roadster is an iconic vehicle, and the full sized Mercedes does it best. The five speed automatic transmission engages smoothly and shifts properly with zero issues. Out on the highway, she drives nice and straight with absolutely no complaints. If you've been looking for a 129 chassis car, I'd steer anyone towards a six cylinder one. They are very hard to find, carry a strong racing heritage and are often better cared for by their owners than the V8 and V12 cars. The V12 cars were bought up by the rock stars and athletes and then quickly traded once something newer and more shiny was available...the V12 cars are often very neglected once they become 3rd and 4th hand vehicles. The V8 cars were bought people who didn't want to be seen in a "base model" but couldn't afford the V12. The six cylinder roadsters were often bought by Mercedes enthusiasts who usually owned several other Merc's and bought the inline six because they wanted exactly that. These cars tend to stay in ownership longer and be very well kept. You'll have to spend some coin to get the top serviced...but you run that risk with any of these cars without warning. At least you know it going into this one. Once it's all serviced up, you have a very low mile example of a car that is getting very hard to find. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
